Job Overview

Qualcomm is seeking an Architect with 5-8 years of relevant experience with a focus on commercial, corporate project types. The Architect researches, plans, designs and administers building projects applying knowledge of design, construction procedures, zoning and building codes, and building materials. Consults with customer to determine functional and spatial requirements of new structure or renovation. Prepares design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs and construction time data. Plans layout of project and integrates engineering elements into unified design. Prepares scale drawings and facilitates contracts. Conducts observations of work during construction to monitor compliance with plans and specifications. Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software. The person in this role must be comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced environment.


Document as-built conditions and prepare as-built drawings.

Prepare schematic design, design development and construction documents.

Responsible for zoning research through application and permit tracking.

Provide construction observation services including documenting site visits, processing submittals, reviewing substitution requests, and RFIs during construction.

Oversee multiple projects of varying size and scope from start to finish during all phases of design through construction.

Provide input to the design and construction schedule and communicate the technical implications of design decisions.

Responsible for the development and coordination of the drawings and specifications including program requirements, code and agency compliance, schedule commitments, product research.

Prepare and review drawings that adhere to Qualcomm guidelines and standards.

Organize and direct the architectural and engineering teams to execute the work in an orderly, timely, and coordinated manner.

Review project status with Senior Staff/Project Managers on periodic basis as determined by the project team.

Provide support for any tasks required for the successful completion of the project.

Some travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) or five (5) year Architecture degree from an accredited program.

Current California architectural registration.

Five (5) to eight (8) years of professional architectural experience with a focus on commercial R&D projects.

Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SketchUp, Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite and presentation skills.

Knowledge of building technology and can demonstrate it through self-produced documents and communication of design process.

Thorough understanding of building/zoning codes, standards, ADA, building structures and construction.

In-Depth understanding of materials and methods of construction.

Highly skilled in construction document detailing and coordination of consultant documents.

Knowledge of structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems, as well as civil design, to coordinate and direct project consultants.

Demonstrated sensitivity to architectural design as well as specific design contributions made to projects.

Ability to collaboratively resolve complex technical and design issues with team to produce innovative solutions.

Self-starter, detail oriented, has excellent organizational and communication skills.

Effective written, verbal and graphic communication, organizational and collaborative skills.

Experience working directly with clients, consultants, contractors, team members and permitting officials.

Manage time effectively, ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks against deadlines.

Willingness to pitch in a team-oriented atmosphere wherever needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with the City of San Diego Development Services (e.g. permit processing, discretionary reviews etc.)

LEED accredited

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s in Architecture Degree from an accredited program.
