The Cellular Technologies Engineer’s role is to design, standardize, implement, verify, validate and commercialize Wireless WAN (or cellular) air interface and modem technologies, as a prototype, specification, product, or component within a product. The engineer has expertise in the WWAN specifications and can design, optimize, and implement advanced wireless systems and modems.
The Cellular Technologies engineer will work closely with the other functional groups to develop a cost-effective, high quality and high capability air interface and modem meeting industry and customer requirements with high performance (e.g. capacity, coverage, throughput, latency, power consumption) and acceptable cost (e.g. silicon area, calibration complexity, code size).
To be a Cellular Technologies Engineer, the employee must have expertise in one or more of the following Modem areas:
Wireless WAN (cellular) modem expertise in defining or prototyping 3GPP specifications, e.g. UMTS, LTE and 5G-NR
Wireless WAN (cellular) modem architecture and implementation including the wireless protocols, systems, RF, HW, SW, and/or embedded FW aspects of:
architectural analysis and tradeoffs
algorithm definition and implementation on multiple specialized processors, including processor definition, implementation, control and verification.
simulation and modeling of modem hardware for architecture, development, and verification of the HW and the controlling embedded FW
End to end system focus from requirements analysis through simulation, architecture tradeoffs, hard/soft system partitioning, design, verification, and validation to commercialization.
The Cellular Technologies Engineer combines multiple of the following preferred cross-functional skillsets:
RF/baseband/modem/computer architecture
Wireless WAN (cellular) systems expertise and cellular standards design and IP development
Communications systems and signal processing expertise
Hardware accelerator design
Embedded software implementation for modem control plane and physical layer
