The Commodity Procurement Manager is responsible for the sourcing and procurement of fresh commodity products at, or below, market price. They will lead and manage procurement efforts in conjunction with Category Management for assigned protein or produce category.
Procure assigned items for regions and divisions, including Stock Yards, using historical data and demand forecast to ensure continuity of supply. Procure Center of the Plate (COP) or produce from suppliers at lowest cost ensuring quality standards are met.
Analyze and monitor market conditions to identify opportunity to improve cost of goods, forward-buys, market purchase timing, risk management, and spot-buy negotiations.
Responsible for leading and executing weekly market conditions’ calls with appropriate region and division employees. Ensure regions and divisions are working with up-to-date market information. Set and communicate market costs for divisions.
Build strong on-going partnerships with vendor community. For COP, this includes identifying and integrating smaller or regional packers/producers. Communicate and negotiate with key suppliers for product categories, creating cost advantages through aggregation and scale.
o Negotiate buys for national and seasonal promotions
o Support cost reduction initiatives with suppliers within category or commodity areas by understanding supply chain and matching to US Foods locations; work US Foods logistics team to minimize freight costs
o Recommend and execute buy-in opportunities in collaboration with category management
Create purchasing benchmarks and monitor category performance to meet or exceed KPI objectives as set by Category Management. Ensure activities are in accordance with defined company standards and guidelines. Execute supplier performance reviews.
Provide input into RFIs and RFPs by analyzing supplier proposals; support supplier negotiations’ process and assist in the development of supplier agreements and contracts.

*Education/Training:* 4 year college degree in agricultural economics or related field, or equivalent experience, required.
*Related Experience:* Minimum of 7 years experience in procurement, commodity trading/risk management in assigned protein or produce category. Category Management experience, including vendor management and pricing, desired. Prior experience in processor or packer industry.
*Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:* Must possess the ability to operate successfully in a matrix environment and work effectively across multiple groups and levels. Must possess solid quantitative and analytical skills and the ability to work in a team setting, drive team results, and support change management within the organization. Must be able to provide fact-based recommendations across various levels of management. Must demonstrate a high degree of motivation, the ability to prioritize and self-direct, strong business acumen, and sound interpersonal skills. Strong verbal, written and presentation communications, as well as solid negotiation skills, required. Proficiency required in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Microsoft Outlook. Prior experience with Microsoft Access a plus.
