Job Description

Northern Arizona University, Department of Theatre is seeking an Assistant Professor of Theatre History, Dramatic Criticism and Performance, beginning August 2018. Successful candidates will be able to teach Theatre History, Acting, and Directing, and to direct for the main stage season.  Possible teaching load would include Theatre History I and II, Modern and Contemporary Drama, Fundamentals of Acting, Directing I, and Script Analysis.  There will also be the opportunity to teach a course in the candidate’s area of expertise, research, or interest. Other responsibilities include having an active research and publication agenda, mentoring students, and department, college, university, and professional service. Candidate should demonstrate skills in supporting and enhancing a culturally rich and diverse environment, with a clear vision and sensitivity that takes into account NAU’s rich commitment to diversity.

This position is 9 month benefit and tenure-eligible position in the Department of Theatre, located on the Flagstaff Mountain campus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD or MFA in Theatre conferred by contract start date in August 2018

  • Evidence of an active research agenda, publication record and grant writing experience
  • Evidence of successful directing
  • Evidence of active conference participation
  • Evidence of successful student mentorship
  • Evidence of successful teaching of Theatre courses at the University level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations on campus and in the community

$55,000-$57,000 depending on experience
