Type: Full Time – 40HR/ Week  $17.00/Hour


Under general supervision of the Water Master, participates in the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of water mains, services, and all other water appurtenances.  Exercises no supervision.  One-year training period applies to this position.


Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Adheres to all USEPA/ STATE Certified Operator guidelines;
Ensures compliance with federal EPA water quality standards;
Provides reports – required/ requested oral/ written Domestic Water Operations, Maintenance, and Management;
Manages department inventory of materials, supplies, chemicals, and equipment;
Manages the department maintenance, including but not limited to, inspections of equipment, performs repairs, adjustments, and maintenance of pumps, electric motors, valves, meter installations, chemical feeders, fire hydrants, lubricates and oils machinery, maintains gas engines and compressors, and maintains proper records of preventative maintenance work;
Calculates water loss figures and leak detection surveys when water loss age exceeds 25% of water produced;
Responds to emergency conditions according to the San Pasqual Domestic Water Standard Operating Procedures;
Management of preventative maintenance for entire Domestic Water System for the Tribe;
Assist the Water Master with the coordination of the funding, bids, contracts, work orders, and replacement of needed equipment;
Develops estimates for recommended purchase of goods and services;
Documents all maintenance activities on approved O-M Record keeping system and presents copies of all work orders along with statements to be the Board each month for review and approval;
Responsible for Domestic Water Record Management;
Works closely with the other department heads, engineers, contractors, and all regulatory officials;
Participates in planning system improvements or expansions;
Handles customer inquiries and complaints related to water service or billing questions;
Other duties as assigned.

·         High School Diploma

·         Must pass a drug test and criminal background check

·         California Driver License and clean driving record


·         Extensive knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water storage, treatment, and distribution equipment and machinery;

·         Working knowledge of the mechanics of pumps and other electrical equipment and machinery;

·         Preferred knowledge of plant electrical systems, power circuit changes, and circuit breaker resets;

·         Ability to perform all basic WQ chemical tests;

·         Ability to detect and diagnose faulty operation of equipment and make corrections;

·         Thorough knowledge of the equipment, tools, and procedures used installing and repairing water main, services, fire hydrants, and meters;

·         Knowledge of all current applicable laws and safety regulations;

·         Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the operation, maintenance, and repair of the utility’s storage, treatment, and distribution systems, and the organizational skills necessary for scheduling daily activities;

·         Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, contractors, engineers, Tribal Government, regulatory officials, and the San Pasqual domestic Water System customers;

·         Ability to take direction.
