Overview
The Torbett lab has a long-standing interest in understanding the biochemical and structural evolution of HIV in response to anti-retroviral treatment. HIV adapts to inhibitors and generates inhibitor resistance, yet maintains viral fitness. To follow individual HIV changes in the viral swarm in patients we are developing novel sequencing methodologies. Currently, we have an opening for a Scripps Research Postdoctoral Associate (from 0-3 years of previous postdoctoral experience) interested in applying novel sequencing methodologies to follow HIV evolution in patients undergoing inhibitor treatment.
Experience in sequencing, RNA biology, virology, and some computational skills will be needed. The Postdoctoral Associate will also be a member of the HIV Interaction in Evolution Center (HIVE) (http://hive.scripps.edu), which is focused on obtaining at the atomic level an understanding of the structural and dynamic relationships between interacting human host cell and HIV macromolecules in the HIV life cycle.
