MESA GRANDE BAND OF MISSION INDIANS’ TRIBAL ADMINISTRATOR

POSITION SUMMARY

In collaboration with the Tribal Council, the Tribal Administrator provides a key leadership role within our Tribal Government. This position is responsible for the overall management and operations of the Tribal Government. The successful candidate will demonstrate high personal standards of integrity, professionalism, dedication, and performance.

The role requires strong, innovative leadership to foster organizational development, enhance business activities, and optimize operational efficiency to create productive work environments and achieve positive results. This individual will be responsible for motivating staff and maintaining positive morale, working closely with all department managers to ensure delivery of the best possible services and quality to our membership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

·         Enforcing Tribal Articles of Association and Policies and Procedures.

·         Reporting to the Tribal Council and collaborating with all departments to ensure successful operations.

·         Providing a secure environment and safeguarding Tribal assets.

·         Providing leadership in overseeing the Tribe’s activities.

·         Ensuring compliance with all federal and tribal laws and regulatory requirements.

·         Assisting in the development of the Tribe’s short- and long-term goals and objectives.

·         Assisting in the annual forecasting and budgeting process.

·         Purchasing or authorizing the purchase of necessary supplies.

·         Understanding and adhering to all departmental policies and procedure manuals.

·         Assisting in the implementation and enforcement of revisions to departmental policies and procedures.

·         Developing and implementing service standards and employee training and development programs for all staff members.

·         Streamlining activities to improve and optimize operational efficiency.

·         Overseeing Human Resources functions, including staff recruitment, supervision, evaluation, and discipline.

·         Managing grants and contracts, ensuring compliance, and engaging in grant writing.

 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

·         A bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University is required, preferably in Tribal Governance, Public Affairs, Native American Studies, or Business Administration.

·         Five (5) years’ experience in Tribal Management Operations is preferred.

·         Experience researching and writing grants is preferred.

·         Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance.

Skills:

·         Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine databases, PowerPoint, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics.

·         Knowledge of QuickBooks and SAGE accounting software is preferred.

·         Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

·         Ability to define problems, collect data, and establish facts.

·         Strong oral and written communication skills.

·         Must have the ability to handle very stressful situations involving both Tribal Members and employees, while always maintaining professional composure.

This position is subject to a 90-day probationary period. Salary range $65,000 – $80,000 per year
