Summary
The Transportation Coordinator will lead the design, launch, and manage the Suquamish Tribe’s Transportation initiative. The role
will be central to creating a responsive and culturally grounded transportation program in alignment with Suquamish values.
Your Education / Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in project coordination, transportation services, or public program management.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively across programs.
• Experience in planning, budgeting, and personnel administration, excellent oral and written communications skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of safe work practices and policies.
• Demonstrated commitment to culturally appropriate care and support for Tribal communities.
Your Responsibilities
• Assess transportation needs, identify service gaps, and recommend models for effective and equitable transit access.
• Develop and maintain a transportation plan and operations procedures, including service routes, individual ride protocols,
safety policies, and staffing structure.
• Coordinate hiring, onboarding, and supervision of program drivers.
• Identify and facilitate procurement of vehicles, equipment, and scheduling tools.
• Coordinate vehicle regular cleaning and maintenance needs.
• Ensure smooth day-to-day program operations and monitor service delivery quality.
• Collaborate with Tribal departments, partner organizations, healthcare providers, courts, and social service agencies.
• Conduct outreach and promote the service across Tribal and community networks to increase awareness and ridership.
• Track key data and assist with reporting on performance, utilization, and community impact.
• Partner with the internal team to provide input, feedback, and monitor data for programs such as Vanpool, Fleet, Carpool, and
Car Share.
• Gather and analyze site-based transportation data, identify relevant metrics, develop insights and report on trends, provide
regular updates to leadership, and make actionable, data-driven recommendations.
• Plan and coordinate onsite transportation events such as bike safety and awareness campaigns, commuter fairs, and electric
vehicle fairs.
• Further relationships with external partners, such as transit agencies, local jurisdictions, and stay informed about local
regulations, policies, and programs. Represent the Tribes interests in both internal committees and external forums.
• Manage the project budgets, track contracts/renewal dates, create purchase orders, track vendor invoices, and update/adjust
forecasts regularly.
• Manage and respond to employee inquiries and feedback, develop content for site newsletters, and collaborate with team
members to increase awareness and ridership.
• Ensuring that funded projects follow policies for greenhouse gas reduction and incorporating environmental justice into
funding programs.

• Demonstrated commitment to culturally appropriate care and support for Tribal communities.
• Knowledge of Community-Based Transportation Models: Understanding of demand-responsive, fixed-route, and
individual ride services, especially in rural or Tribal settings.
• Program Planning and Implementation: Ability to design and launch new services, including needs assessment, resource
coordination, and operational logistics.
• Strong Communication Skills: Ability to effectively engage with clients, Tribal departments, external agencies, and
leadership; skill in presenting data and project updates.
• Collaboration and Relationship-Building: Proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and community partnerships
to advance shared goals.
• Technology and Data Management: Familiarity with scheduling software, basic data collection tools (e.g., Excel, Google
Sheets), and the ability to track program metrics.
• Problem-Solving and Flexibility: Capacity to navigate ambiguity, address challenges creatively, and adapt plans based on
community input and operational realities.
• Administrative and Organizational Skills: Ability to manage timelines, budgets, staffing coordination, procurement
processes, and reporting deadlines.
What to Expect
• Will require coordination and communication with other Tribal, state, and federal programs. This includes
partnerships with Tribal Government departments, other local government agencies, and private sector partners
on various operational issues.
• Represent the Suquamish Tribe on committees involving external agencies or community groups, as well as serve
as the representative for any committees appointed by the Executive Director or Tribal Council.
