JOB DESCRIPTION
Red Eagle Soaring (RES) is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Native Youth Theatre that specializes in building self-confidence and clarity of expression for Native youth ages 10-19 in Seattle and artistic & professional development of Alumni ages 20 plus in King County, Washington. We are a Native led organization serving urban Native American youth and one of the only organizations like ours in the United States. We prioritize accessibility with free arts education, integrating contemporary theatre and traditional Native performing arts.
The following is the job description for COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST.
HOURS & RATE:
40 hours per week, $26.44/hr. on calendar year, benefits eligible, with annual evaluation.
Hours will be flexible at discretion of Executive Director, but will mostly encompass daytime or evening hours, depending on meetings and events.
Location in Seattle, WA. Relocation assistance is available. Desired start date – immediate.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Community Engagement Specialist serves a strategic relationship builder at the intersection of community outreach, student recruitment and strengthening the organizational visibility, presence and marketing duties. This dynamic role will work in collaboration with all staff members and is ideal for someone who thrives on collaboration, creativity and passion about Native youth and their journey into the arts, as well as supporting Alumni of our programs.
PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Community Engagement & Partnerships
– Expand and strengthen our community partnerships to increase RES visibility and presence in and around Seattle and King County
– Initiate, steward, track and report on partnerships with organizations, schools, tribes, theatres and cultural centers
– Represent Red Eagle Soaring at events and networking opportunities to foster connection, increase visibility and increase student recruitment
– Manage website and social media Facebook and Instagram accounts and correspondence through those platforms
– Support RES accessibility and inclusion strategy across all patron-facing efforts
CONTENT / VISIBILITY / FEEDBACK
– Collaborate with team to develop engagement content and visual media
– Manage external community promotions, posts and listings
– Contribute to patron surveys and audience educational materials
– Contribute meaningful work in alignment with organizational values, building on our rich history and legacy working with Native youth development through the arts
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
– Participate in weekly staff meetings and scheduled board meetings
– Participate in program performances and special events
– Cultivate and track engagement with multiple community stakeholders
– Prepare monthly reports for inclusion within broader organizational reports
– Other applicable duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
(REQUIRED)
– Compatibility with Red Eagle Soaring’s mission and values
– Excellent, pro-active communication skills – written, in-person, over the phone/email
– Sincere interest and demonstrated experience in community building and relationship development
– Has a strong interest (or background) working with non-profit work or theatre/arts.
– Ability to organize and report information, track follow-ups, and multitask projects
– Candidate is technology savvy and can perform basic computer work and reporting
– Creative towards teaching and enhancing youth theatre.
– Desire (or background) of working within a Native community.
(PREFERRED)
– Experience working with Microsoft Excel, Google Docs or other spreadsheet programs
– Well connected in urban Native and/or greater Seattle community
– Familiarity with theatre education, the arts, nonprofits and/or Seattle’s cultural sector
– Comfortable using tools such as Microsoft, Google, Canva, email platforms and databases
– Experience with presentations, audience and donor development, marketing and/or engagement strategy

About Red Eagle Soaring Native Youth Theatre
Since 1991, Red Eagle Soaring has mentored hundreds of Native youth, staged over 200 productions, and supported youth access to the healing power of Native cultural traditions which promote social, physical, and intellectual engagement. In bringing together Native youth to learn about the technical aspects and process of theatre, they also build a community of people interested in learning about, sharing, promoting, and supporting Native arts and cultural life ways.
Red Eagle Soaring is empowering Native youth to express themselves, take creative action on the issues that affect their lives, and sustain their cultural heritage. Red Eagle Soaring conducts an annual cycle of programming for Native Youth.
