Arc Health is seeking a hospitalist for the Inpatient Department of a critical access Tribal hospital located on the Navajo Indian Reservation. This is a part-time, locum tenens position to provide coverage approximately one week per month.
Schedule: One week each month, 5 to 7 12-hour day shifts
Support staff/EHR: Each physician works with a medical assistant (MA) for the day. The MA may be shared with other providers and help triage and room. EHR system is MediTech.
Specialty & Community resources: Access to UpToDate, point of care testing, pipeline to urgent care and ED services, behavioral health, dental, diabetes & community health services program, inpatient services, laboratory, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and radiology.
Location & Population:
The hospital is open 24 hours every day. The campus is on 110 acres and houses thirteen departments. There are typically thirteen physicians, two family nurse practitioners, three optometrists, and three dental professionals. The hospital uses the EMR system MediTech for patient management.
This hospital serves the Navajo Nation and surrounding community; 97% of the service area population is American Indian. It serves as the sole provider of care for the Navajo Nation chapters and communities south of Route 26 (Cornfields, Steamboat, etc.). This totals approximately 20,000 people. Navajo Nation is an area that is approximately the size of West Virginia, with a population of approximately 173,000 people living on the reservation itself. There are significant health disparities on the Reservation, with an estimated 30% of people without access to clean water, 30% without electricity, and 40% or more unemployment prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The hospital is within a few hours’ drive of many national and state parks, including Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Petrified National Forest, Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, Zion NP, and Bryce NP. It is also with a few hours’ drive of scenic Sedona, ski resorts in Telluride and Taos, and cities such as Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Flagstaff, and Phoenix.

Candidates must be:
Fully licensed in the state of Arizona, and have an active AZ DEA
