Head of Talent & Equity – Job Description

Application Timeline: Rolling, position open until filled. April 16th Priority Deadline.

Location: Remote; Northern California or Pacific Northwest preferred.

Reports to: Nick Wobbrock, Chief Operating Officer

Compensation Package: Compensation $100-$130k, dependent on experience.

Position Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Head of Talent & Equity at Blue Forest are to help lead Blue Forest’s efforts to create an inclusive organizational culture, increase hiring across a more diverse pool of candidates, and strengthen people operations best practices. This includes ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion is embedded in hiring, retention, investing in our current team members’ growth, onboarding, benefits and compensation, and culture. To date, Blue Forest has hosted quarterly DEI workshops for 18-months and started 3 DEI working groups on topics of Hiring, DEI Principles, and Tribal Engagement. With the expectation of hiring an additional 10+ team members in 2022, we are looking for a Head of Talent & Equity to ramp up this hiring and bring in a diverse slate of candidates to help expand the diversity of the Blue Forest team while building company culture with a DEI lens. Success for the Head of Talent & Equity will be accomplished by incorporating equity into every aspect of human resource management, organizational culture, and supporting organizational partnerships. Blue Forest looks forward to learning how the performance objectives below could center equity and inclusion with an intentional and proactive management vision.

Performance Objectives:

Managing the Full Talent Life Cycle

Facilitate recruitment, interview process, and coordination
Employ best practices to solicit candidates from as broad and diverse a range as possible
Develop job descriptions with managers to meet anticipated needs of Blue Forest
Recommend tools, systems, platforms to support and streamline the recruitment/hiring process
Provide leadership support in the development of department goals and talent acquisition strategies that will favorably impact our efforts and overall business plans
Formalize a formal and supportive employee performance review and professional development process

Leading and Performing Human Resources Operations

Onboard new employees with company systems, orientations, paperwork, and benefits
Process and manage all payroll tasks, interfacing with ADP payroll service
Manage and administrate company benefits portfolio and employee enrollments, including ongoing evaluation of company benefits through an equity lens and making recommendations to improve and support employee benefit programs
Evaluate industry compensation and establish competitive and equitable compensation bands and benefits with approval from the leadership team and board of directors
Manage company policies for employer / employee compliance and compliance with funding sources such as federal government, state agency, and private foundations
Help support resource planning and anticipate future company hiring needs

Strengthening Company Culture

Be a champion for company culture, values, and inclusion
Plan team gatherings, and support a fun and dynamic remote work environment
Support and lead company DEI initiatives such as leading workshops or trainings
Identify opportunities and recommend approaches to improve Blue Forest working environment, collaboration, trust, and coordination
Help to establish working norms and expectations within Blue Forest and collaborative partnerships

Skills/Experience You Possess:

5+ years HR experience, non-profit preferred
Experience embedding equity and racial justice throughout talent life cycle & HR functions
Ability to recruit, coach, and support the development of diverse, values-aligned, and driven talent
Human resource credentials, such as ​​ SHRM or SPHR, are preferred but not required
An interest in environmental and/or conservation work
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to operational development
The ability to work across internal departments to foster relations, community, and company cohesion
You are a self-starter & self-motivated, both able to work independently and within teams
The interest and ability to work remotely

COVID VACCINE REQUIREMENT

All Blue Forest staff are required to be “fully vaccinated” against COVID-19, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines that term. Proof of full vaccination shall be a condition of employment and must be provided prior to starting work, except where prohibited by law.
