Job Description:
Under the general direction of the Supervising Transportation Engineer (Corridor Project Director), the Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans (Senior Resident Construction Engineer) performs advanced professional engineering work in the oversight of complex construction projects. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the construction activities of engineering staff, consultants, and contractors. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring projects are completed within approved scopes, budgets, and timelines while adhering to strict compliance with Caltrans’s standard specifications, environmental regulations, and State and federal safety standards. Key duties include administering construction contracts, resolving technical, contractual, and administrative challenges, collaborating with governmental agencies, regulatory agencies, and local municipalities, claims resolution, and policy implementation to mitigate risk to public safety and fiscal accountability.
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required for this position.
