Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the District Division Chief of Traffic Safety & Operations, a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the incumbent supervises the activities and operations of the Traffic Engineering and Analysis (TEA) Branch. The incumbent performs the review of impacts of developments and encroachment permits and serves as the District’s Accessibility Program Manager and Intersection Control Evaluation Coordinator. The incumbent provides operational advice and Traffic Studies and reviews to Project Development, Construction, Maintenance, and Traffic Safety & Operations as they design, construct, and maintain the projects delivered by the District. During the planning phases of projects, the incumbent provides active support in evaluating alternatives and makes recommendations. The incumbent also provides descriptions and rough estimates for feasibility studies. The incumbent acts as a District Permit Engineer for Encroachment Permits that fall within the District’s Quality Management Assessment Process (QMAP). In addition, the incumbent is responsible for supervising engineers and others engaged in transportation development activities. The incumbent works independently on assigned tasks under the direction of the Division Chief, provides on-the-job training, assigns work, and reviews work and reports generated by TEA staff.

Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Professional Engineers is required for this position.
