Will Consider Transportation Planner

This position is in the Regional Planning unit, under the direction of the Regional Planning Branch Chief, a Senior Transportation Planner. This unit is responsible for regional, local, and transit agency coordination, and the oversight of transportation projects. The Associate/Transportation Planner is the primary liaison between Caltrans and the Regional Transportation Planning Agencies (RTPAs) in the district. The incumbent is responsible for interacting with RTPAs in regard to Overall Work Programs and Regional Transportation Plans, with an emphasis on monitoring activities funded with state-administered transportation planning funds. Responsibilities will also include grant contract manager duties as they relate to the Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant program. The incumbent will provide input into the development of major policy documents, inform RTPAs of projects and funding opportunities, further regional goals in long- and short-range planning, and liaise on aligning regional funding opportunities. The incumbent will build and strengthen relationships with stakeholders, including local and regional agencies, transit providers, and transportation advocates to facilitate meaningful engagement around regional planning activities. The person in this position will represent the Department at public meetings and must be able to communicate clearly and have skills for partner agency relationship building, providing excellent customer service, contract administration, technical skills, be results oriented, and have the ability to comprehend and interpret program guidelines and regulations.
