Under the general direction of the Supervising Transportation Planner, the Chief of the Office of Planning, Policy, and Program Development (OPPPD), the Senior Transportation Planner serves as the coordinator for innovation efforts across Caltrans. This role involves working closely with programs and districts to identify, develop, document, share, and implement innovative ideas at the enterprise level, fostering a culture of innovation throughout the organization. The incumbent is responsible for developing and coordinating strategic innovation initiatives, implementing policy and process improvement projects, and strengthening partnerships at the local, state, and national levels. The Senior Transportation Planner leads a team that collaborates with program and district innovation coordinators to maintain a statewide repository of innovative ideas, manage crowd-sourcing tools, and develop procedures and guidance for their use. The incumbent organizes the biannual Caltrans Innovation Conference, collaborates with transportation partners on joint innovation initiatives, and oversees the production of the Annual Innovation Report. Working on behalf of the OPPPD Office Chief and other professional staff, the Senior Transportation Planner develops and applies methods necessary to independently complete assigned tasks and support the work of other team members.
