Under the general direction of the Chief, Office of Safety & System Management, a Supervising Transportation Planner, the incumbent serves as the statewide technical expert for identifying and analyzing the potential impact of innovative technologies and transportation system management and operations (TSMO) strategies for the planning function. The incumbent will work cooperatively with other planning functions such as travel forecasting and analysis, freight, sustainable communities, complete streets and active transportation, rail, mass transportation, aeronautics, and regional planning to ensure that innovative technologies and transportation systems management and operations (TSMO) strategies are accurately included in plans and planning guidance. The incumbent will work with other divisions, public agencies, and stakeholders groups to integrate innovative technologies and operations considerations in multi-modal system planning plans, guidance, and products. The incumbent will establish the Planning Program’s leadership in planning for the implementation of innovative technologies and TSMO strategies. The incumbent will be the technical traffic engineering liaison with Caltrans Divisions of Traffic Operations, Programming, Safety, and Project Development and external agencies such as the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), ensuring that comprehensive technical understanding is available for and accurately included in multi-modal policies, plans, and strategic investment documents. The Transportation Systems & Technologies Lead will also work with FHWA and external local and regional partners to develop cooperative partnerships to advance the integration of innovative technologies and TSMO strategies as appropriate.
