Under the general supervision of the Chief, Office of Materials and Infrastructure, the incumbent serves as a Senior Transportation Engineer (Specialist) responsible for management and performance of Engineering Seismology Research. The incumbent provides improvements to the earthquake design ground motions, earthquake faults, seismic mitigation methods, etc. for use in engineering designs and hazard/risk assessments. The incumbent will provide the Engineering Seismology Research products needed by the Department to improve the safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the transportation network.

The incumbent will develop and recommend research project budgets and will recommend projects to be included in the Department’s Annual Work Plan for State Planning and Research, Part II. The incumbent will be responsible for consensus building for development and execution of research partnerships, management of in-house and contract research, and working with Departmental staff to assure dissemination and implementation of final research results within Department policies and guidelines. The incumbent acts as a research Task and/or Project Manager as well as assists clients with research project management, coordination, and reporting throughout the course of the investigation.

The incumbent will assist Division of Research, Innovation and System Information (DRISI) management in the development and enhancement of it programs. The incumbent will serve as a DRISI liaison on Caltrans committees and represent Caltrans interests with partner and stakeholder organizations.
