EPIDEMIOLOGIST – WINDOW ROCK, ARIZONA, NAVAJO NATION

The CDC Foundation is the sole entity authorized by Congress to mobilize philanthropic partners and private-sector resources to support CDC’s critical health protection mission. Since 1995, the CDC Foundation has launched approximately 1,000 programs and has served as a strategic partner to CDC during public health emergencies. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public’s health.
The Epidemiologist will support Navajo Nation Department of Public Health, the Navajo Epidemiology Center, and Navajo Area Service Units in case investigation, contact tracing, data management, analysis, and reporting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform case investigation, contact tracing, data management, analysis, and reporting for COVID-19 and other infectious respiratory diseases
• Develop, implement, and evaluate procedures for data quality control measures to be carried out by public health staff
• Provide on the job training to staff in case investigation, contact tracing, data management, and analysis
• Relate epidemiologic findings for health policy formulation
• Make formal presentations of study findings to scientific groups, health care providers, agency personnel, and the general public

· Minimum qualifications
o Master’s in Public Health, Science, Informatics, Data Management or a related field and 2 years work experience or equivalent educational experience
o Valid driver’s license
· Desired qualifications
o Experience with data management, statistical methods, program evaluation or quality assurance, design and implement epidemiological studies, write descriptive results of analysis and present oral and written information.
o Needs to be well versed in excel plus familiar with database creation and management as well as statistical analysis language such as SPSS, R, SAS, etc.
o Ability to assess disease control problems and develop solutions.
o Experience in project management desired but not necessary
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills
o Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial; energetic; and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners
o Experience working with tribal organizations and/or communities
o Cultural competence in working with tribal organizations and/or tribal members
Occasional teleworking is available.
