About the Position: 

Children’s Funding Project is seeking a data governance manager to work collaboratively across the organization and with members of the Fiscal Data Infrastructure Team to strengthen and improve data systems, processes, and products to advance strategic public financing for children and youth. The ideal candidate is a flexible data professional with a growth mindset who excels at creating and maintaining data systems and processes. This is a new, full-time exempt position that will report to the director of the Fiscal Data Infrastructure Team.

 

Data Governance

Provide ongoing guidance on the design, use, and maintenance of data used in CFP publications and interactives.
Develop and strengthen processes with the Research Capacity Team to promote learning and consistency in fiscal data collection and analysis across projects.
Apply a critical lens to data systems, processes, and products to understand the impact that racism and other forms of oppression have on data assets and to advance data equity and data sovereignty with Tribal nations.
Data Management

Build and maintain data systems and infrastructure for CFP data products, such as cost models and state fiscal maps.
Lead the design, implementation, and use of database(s) to optimize quality and efficiency.
Implement digital tools and automation to help streamline processes, improve consistency, and enhance efficiency.
Data Validation

Provide ongoing review of data collected by the Research Capacity Team to ensure it is consistent and accurate.
Periodically assess data for quality, completeness, and accuracy for continuous improvement of data assets.
Identify trends and anomalies in the data collected to correct the source of data inaccuracies.
Coaching and Training

Provide data-related professional development opportunities for the Research Capacity Team.
Coach staff on data quality practices related to the fiscal mapping process and other data-related tasks.
Develop onboarding support for staff who may have varied data-related needs, skills, and abilities.
Skills & Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible, relevant experience in data collection, analysis, and management.
Deep commitment to the values of justice, equity, diversity, and belonging. Preference will be given to candidates with a track record of incorporating these values into data analysis and management.
Extensive data management skills and experience, including establishing or improving data systems and processes; business intelligence and data visualization tools including Power BI; programming languages such as Python, VBA, SQL, and R; and database design, development, and maintenance
Familiarity with automated scripting and artificial intelligence tools to clean data and create data workflows.
Familiarity with US Census Bureau data sources and social and economic data analysis.
Experience working in teams and participating in collaborative project management workflows.
Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical data-related concepts and solutions to professionals with a diverse data skill set.
Comfortable with unfamiliar tasks and flexible in problem-solving, learning new skills, and embracing change.
Strong attention to detail and a passion for ensuring data meet or exceed quality standards.
Location: Remote. Work may be performed from anywhere in the United States

 

Compensation: This position falls into the Manager level of our salary structure. Although the full salary range for the position is $75,000-$90,000, we expect the hiring range to be between $75,000 and $82,500, based on skills, experience, and internal equity.
