Position Definition:


To coordinate marketing and communication strategies that reflect and achieve the District’s and colleges’ goals of fostering enrollment growth.

Examples of Duties/Essential Functions:


Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assists in the development and writing of objectives and posture in order to support the District’s position in the areas of marketing, communications and District branding.

Develops and coordinates marketing advertising campaigns, including themes and content; projects cost estimates and timelines.

Develops contents of marketing material and coordinates implementation of database marketing.

Develops and distributes internal Districtwide publications.

Assists in ensuring the effectiveness of communication both Districtwide and with the external community; recommends new communication strategies as necessary.

Establishes internal and external college advertising.

Develops written responses to prospective students’ general inquiries; determines which inquiries to forward to college officials for follow-up action; maintains college officials’ response list.

Coordinates the development of presentations and handouts using various forms of media for presentation by District officials; coordinates opportunities for District officials to make public presentations.

Writes and designs sponsorships and resolutions.

Coordinates marketing campaign archives.

Functions as photographer as required.

Performs related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:





Two (2) years of experience providing professional-level assistance in the areas of marketing, media communications, public relations or related field.


Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with course work in marketing, media relations, communications, public relations, or a related field, or the equivalent.


Knowledge Of:


Marketing analysis processes and campaign development.

Current trends of marketing and advertising.

Principles and techniques of public relations, media and communications.

Gather and compile statistical data.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Desirable Qualifications:


• Project and relationship management (internal partners and stakeholders, external vendors), and creative production experience.

• An audience-first approach to marcom strategy (ensure deliverables are produced according to marcom goals/audiences/channels/budget).

• Understanding and ability to execute based on modern website, design, photography, and copywriting standards.

• Digital and print content creation, and coordination of photos, videos, copy, graphics, etc. for email, social media, websites, direct mail, etc.

• Social media account management including editorial calendars, follower engagement and analytics.

• Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure; strong interpersonal skills.

• Highly detail and process oriented with excellent time management skills.

• Data savvy; committed to using metrics to make data informed decisions.

• Tech savvy; excited to keep pace with constantly evolving marcom tools and standards.

• Willingness to train and coach internal partners including staff, managers, faculty, and students on marcom best practices and skills, and ability to be curious, humble, optimistic, and confident in approach to do so.


Special Instructions:


The Marketing & Communications Coordinator is a permanent, position located on the Diablo Valley College Pleasant Hill campus in the Marketing and Communications Office. The duties of this position will include developing and coordinating marketing and communication activities specifically for Diablo Valley College, primarily, but not exclusively on the DVC website


Note: New employees will be placed at the first step which is $5,907.00 per month, second step $6,205.00 per month or third step at $6,519.00 per month (depending upon experience). Based on current salary placement guidelines, all step increases for which an employee becomes eligible shall take place on July 1st of each fiscal year. These increases will occur, on annual basis, until the maximum step of $7,194.00 per month is reached on the salary schedule.
