Description of Position:
This is an academic position within the Art Department at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, California. We are currently interviewing instructors for one course in Spring 2022 and our Adjunct Teaching Faculty Pool. We are currently accepting applications for lecture and laboratory instructors with an expertise in analog and digital photography.
Successful applicants will be able to teach one or more of the following courses:ART160: Photography I (Introduction to Black and White Darkroom)ART161: Photography II (Intermediate Black and White Darkroom)
ART163: Documentary Photography ART-164 Photographic Portfolio Development ART-165 Advanced Photographic Portfolio Development ART-166 Experimental Photography

Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.
Master’s in photography, fine arts, or art
Bachelor’s in any of the above
Master’s in art history or humanities
Master’s in Fine Art or Art. (If you do not possess the exact listed degree, you must complete an equivalency form provided when applying online.)
-Experience in teaching courses similar to those listed in the job description.-Varied photographic knowledge, evidenced by a resume and portfolio which reflects dedication to photography via exhibitions and technical experience.-Professional experience working with and teaching a diverse student population in a multi-cultural college environment.-A history of maintaining good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and community contacts.-Proven ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment.
