The Metas Program seeks applicants to teach “Building Pre-Collegiate Skills-Level I & II.”

Metas is a no-cost academic enrichment program driven by students, parents, alumni, and mentors united around a common goal of making college a reality for the youth in our community. Our objective is to foster a college going environment through tutoring, mentoring, career exploration, personal and leadership development that is culturally responsive and social justice orientated. Students in our program meet every other Saturday for a non-credit course in which they receive tutoring followed by academic enrichment curriculum focused on academic skills, personal development and cultural identity to support college success.
Instructor must be able to prepare and grade class assignments and exams that are culturally relevant, meet program goals, and engage students through dynamic multimedia forms; inform students of their academic progress of course requirements, and evaluation procedures; maintain scholastic records and submit them according to published deadlines and be able to serve and mentor a diverse student body in age, ethnicity, gender, sexuality and academic skills.

This course meets on Saturdays the following meeting dates: F23: 9/23, 10/7, 10/21, 11/4, 12/2, 12/16, S24: 2/10, 3/2, 3/16, 4/13, 4/27, 5/11.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:

Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

Bachelor’s in any social science, humanities, mathematics, or natural science discipline or in liberal studies, as appropriate for the course.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience teaching K-12th grade student population
• Bilingual, Spanish
• Experience working with youth from diverse cultures within the West Contra Costa County communities (or similar communities).
• Experience working with youth to support their intersectional identities, including folks from the LGBTQ community
• Experience working to promote wellness and healing in youth experiencing chronic stress and/or trauma
• Expertise in word processing, email, internet, spreadsheets, and zoom.
• Enthusiasm using digital multimedia platforms to develop and deliver curriculum
