Overview
The Dietetic Technician (Safety) will be directed by the Dietetics Assistant Director in the Nutrition Services Department at the Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
- Prepare weekly diet menus for review by RD. Monitor need for and complete all diet menu changes.
- Process diet orders into Diet Line, Regular Line, and special nourishment instructions.
- Compose special modified diet slips for diets not listed on the diet menu.
- Maintain patient diet kardexes. Process related data such as movement sheets and renewals.
- Prepare and distribute required production/presentation forms, e.g., Special Order Sheets and tally of special nourishment items.
- Complete data entry into foodservice software system (e.g. Computrition).
- Provides support to the Clinical Dietitians.
- Monitor and help coordinate the provision of modified diets. Includes: Monitor meal service.
- Act as consult to Nutrition Services staff on technical aspects of preparing and serving modified diets and nourishments including Diet Line, Regular Line, and on-unit service.
- Maintain requirements for safety, security, infection control, emergency response, and a non-hostile work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Either I Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Technician Registration of the American Dietetic Association Or II Education: Completion of an American Dietetic Association-approved two-year Dietetic Technician Program, with emphasis in nutritional care or food service management. AND Experience: Six months of continuous experience in the practice of dietetics in a health care setting. (Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent degree approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Vocational Education under the provisions of the California Education Code Division 10, Part 59, Chapter 3, which meets the academic requirements as approved by the American Dietetic Association may be substituted for the required experience.) (Applicants who have completed one year of the required education will be admitted to the examination but must complete the education and experience requirements in full before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)
