General Summary

Researches, designs, develops, and optimizes video codec and computer vision systems and HW architecture, algorithms, features, logic design, modeling, and design verification. Designs, develops, implements and verifies complex video systems, HW and FW tasks including Video Encoder, Video Decoder, Computer Vision, Video Quality and Features. Performs architecture, standard study, algorithm and feature decomposition to drive requirements and specifications for hardware development. Works with customers and analyzes customer product requirements to define for a new architecture, video and CV modules or modification of an existing design for all addressable markets including mobile, automotive, IoT, and others. Ensures KPI, systems performance, area and power metrics are met. Drives triage of problems to determine root cause and provide recommendations to fix and/or improve. The responsibilities of this role include: • Working independently with no supervision.• Providing supervision to others who may be direct reports.• Making decisions that are significant in impact; errors are not readily apparent due to the complexity of work process/product or time between decisions and results; errors typically result in significant expenditure of time, resources, and funds to correct. • Using verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. May require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.• Developing and administering budgets, schedules, and performance standards for functional area within the prescribed budgetary objectives of the department. • Having a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to provide input on key decisions).• Completing tasks that do not have defined steps; simultaneous use of multiple mental abilities is generally required to determine the best approach; mistakes may result in significant rework.• Exercising exceptional creativity to innovate new ideas and develop innovative products/processes without established objectives or known parameters.• Using deductive and inductive problem solving; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or conflicting; advanced data analysis and interpretation skills are required. • Participating in the organization’s planning process, interpreting business strategies, establishing strategic plans and objectives for multiple areas and functions; decisions may affect entire organization.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Leverages expert video knowledge (e.g., video codec, computer vision, video standards) and methodology to lead a major feature within video hardware, systems, or firmware; applies advanced understanding of other teams or domains; guides junior engineers in design and implementation; participates in project reviews and project meetings across cross-functional domains to deliver video products that meet customer needs.• Leads design and integration of one or more video systems and develops complex features and components in line with proposals or roadmaps for complex products; oversees design/feature requirements across one or more systems.• Applies and teaches others on analyses (e.g., feasibility studies) and using appropriate tools and methodology; identifies issues and/or patterns of issues and implications for the work; makes recommendations to address issues.• Leads multiple projects in determining complexity and quality of complex video systems or designs based on device specifications and requirements; coordinates team to address failures or gaps.• Leads engineering team in collaborating with test/verification engineering teams to identify testing needs and review test methodologies for their particular devices, components, and products.• Advises and leads team in evaluation of video system or design features to identify potential flaws, compatibility, or compliance issues; reviews evaluations provided by less experienced engineers.• Keeps up-to-date with, researches, and mentors others about the latest industry knowledge, trends, and video standards; leverages this knowledge in developing state-of-the-art algorithms and designs.• Applies deep understanding across multiple domains to ensure all components will integrate in the broader framework.• Writes clear and detailed technical documentation and feature descriptions for highly complex or difficult projects to ensure users and/or customers can easily implement output.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

+ Frequently transports between offices, buildings, and campuses up to ½ mile.

+ Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).

+ Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.

+ Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelors – Computer Engineering, Bachelors – Computer Science, Bachelors – Electrical Engineering

Work Experiences:

7+ years Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

Work Experiences:

6+ years experience with programming (e.g., C, C++, Python), computer architecture, or embedded systems. ,7+ years experience with hardware system design, system integration, schematic capture, and circuit simulation software. ,2+ years of applicable video HW and/or Systems experience. ,1+ years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports (only applies to positions with direct reports). ,3+ years experience working in a large matrixed organization. ,2+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director level and above)
