EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee’s official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

In this position, you will serve the Region Ten, External Affairs Division. Typical assignments include:

Advising FEMA leadership and staff on matters related to outreach and agency activities that involve the engagement of tribal nations, including tribal officials and the associations and organizations that represent them.
Coordinating and performing outreach functions with program offices on tribal issues.
Providing program offices with information and support to assist their efforts to support tribes’ emergency management programs.
Coordinating and arranging logistics and briefings for senior FEMA officials’ interactions with tribal governments and develops related materials for these meetings with tribal partners.
Organizing and coordinating briefings and meetings regarding FEMA programs for tribal partners.
Identifying new and innovative communications approaches to help meet the needs of tribal partners in support of External Affairs priorities and disaster operations.
Deploying to support External Affairs during disaster operations, or Emergency Support Function (ESF) 15, as a tribal affairs expert, including identifying critical resource and communications needs and gaps and advises on how to engage tribes.
