Local Hire employees:
Help FEMA respond to, recover from and mitigate all hazards by performing a variety of emergency management functions which are not limited to disaster survivor assistance, conducting and verifying damage assessments, and providing administrative, financial and logistical support.
A local hire’s term of employment is 120 days. Local Hire appointments may be extended, in 120 day increments, for a maximum 365 day appointment, based on the needs of the disaster.
Work within 23 different Cadres which are groups of personnel organized by operational function and FEMA Qualification System (FQS) position.
Each Local Hire is hired to a position within a Cadre based on his or her skills and experience.
FEMA is seeking candidates with experience in site inspection or construction.
In this position, you will serve as a site inspector in the Frankfort, KY area. Typical assignments include:
* Conducting Damage Description and Dimensions (DDD) based on photographs, site sketches/drawings, and damage assessed during the site inspection.
* Capturing an applicant’s claimed damages for all categories of work.
* Completing a Site Inspection Report (SIR) and scanning all supporting documentation into the Customer Relations Management Tool.
* Reporting progress of activities to immediate supervisor.

Deployments: Our mission requires us to deploy around the country when disaster strikes. Every FEMA employee has day-to-day emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires deployment to disaster sites. During your deployment, you may be required to work irregular hours, work at locations other than your official duty station, and pick up duties other than those specified in the official position description. Travel required to support emergency operations may be extensive (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
