EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee’s official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

In this position, you will serve as the Situation Unit Lead on a National IMAT focused on homeland security incidents. Typical duties include: Typical assignments include:

* Managing notification, communication, information dissemination, and mobilization/direction of emergency response resource capabilities for all types of intentional and/or unintentional crises, disasters.
* Drafting regulations and guidance documents; drafting and commenting on pending or proposed legislation and other emergency management policy documents.
* Interpreting FEMA’s applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
* Preparing technical advice on the National Response Framework, a guide that defines coordinated, effective emergency response support to disaster-affected states, tribes, territorial, and local jurisdictions, especially when state and local resources are overwhelmed.
* Overseeing the performance of substantive work to build emergency management and support capabilities, as well as maintaining and ensuring the readiness of such capabilities based on an analysis of risk and need.
