POSITION:                Coordinator / Advocate

PAY:                           $25.00 – $28.00 hour

Position Summary:

The Coordinator/Advocate position will be tasked with holding talking circles and monthly gatherings to share knowledge from Elders, Cultural Bearers, Seniors, Staff, and others with knowledge to share with victims or secondary Victims of Crime to help them heal from the trauma they have experienced

Position Summary Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are considered essential for this job classification:

1.        Plan, coordinate, promote, and facilitate weekly/monthly/quarterly talking circles for the Victims and Secondary Victims of the La Jolla Indian Reservation Community

2.       Plan, coordinate, promote, and facilitate monthly Puru’axish events at the La Jolla Indian Reservation for the Victims and Secondary Victims of the La Jolla Indian Reservation Community

3.        Work with the Staff on events that are held with or in conjunction with the Native Connections Program, MMIP Program, Boys Group, Girls Group, La Jolla Seniors, GEMS Senior Chair Volleyball Team, or any other program that the Avellaka Program has or is associated with.

4.       Create and facilitate a safe space for intergenerational sharing and teaching for the Victims and Secondary Victims of the La Jolla Indian Reservation Community

5.        Coordinator/Advocate will be responsible for working with the tribes finance department on all records and ensuring that Purchase Orders, Payment Requests, Invoices, and Receipts are submitted in a timely manner

6.       Will keep track of all expenditures and grant files for the program side and assist the Program Director on reporting requirements

7.       Will attend a 40-hour Tribal Domestic Violence Advocate Training and work alongside the other Advocates at the Avellaka Program

8.       Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.        Familiarity with and the ability to facilitate talking circles.

2.       Ability to plan, promote, coordinate, and facilitate community meetings

3.        Must be computer literate, have excellent analytical, oral, written, and organizational skills

4.       Operate modern office equipment and Microsoft Office software with skill and efficiency

5.        Must be able to write reports and maintain files

6.       Must possess a valid driver’s license, must maintain a satisfactory driving record with the DMV, and be insurable under the Tribe’s policy.

7.       High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

8.       Must be able to pass a background check and able to work with children

Other Requirements:

All employees are expected to follow the Tribal Personnel Policies and Procedures of the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians and adhere to any additional applicable addendums.

Preferred:

Familiarity with running wellbriety meetings and the White Bison curriculum

Physical Conditions:

Essential and marginal functions require maintaining physical conditions necessary for indoor and outdoor conditions. Bending, turning, reaching, grasping, standing, sitting, walking, ascending stairs, hiking in uneven terrain, occasional light to moderate, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.

Preference Policy: By the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (25 USC 472), preference in filling this vacancy will be given to qualified Indian candidates who present proof of eligibility for Indian Preference. Verification on BIA Form 5-4432 or from Tribal ID Applications should be submitted at the La Jolla Tribal Hall or online. An Indian card must be provided with the application.
