Qualcomm Overview:

Qualcomm is a company of inventors that unlocked 5G ushering in an age of rapid acceleration in connectivity and new possibilities that will transform industries, create jobs, and enrich lives. But this is just the beginning. It takes inventive minds with diverse skills, backgrounds, and cultures to transform 5Gs potential into world-changing technologies and products. This is the Invention Age – and this is where you come in.

General Summary

Oversees architecture, design, verification, and performance analysis for development of Machine Learning (ML) acceleration hosted by a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for Qualcomm Mobile, Machine Learning, Automotive, IoT, and other products. The focus of the design is energy-efficient massive parallelism for ML and image processing. Determines processor architecture, micro-architecture, logic design, verification, and all performance and power aspects. Applies high-performance microprocessor design concepts including computer arithmetic, data paths, Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD), pipelining, networking, memory subsystems, bus interfaces, multi-core, multi-threaded, out-of-order, cache memory, high-speed ALU, and advanced low power design. Custom instruction set is needed to achieve industry-leading results in machine learning and modem. Applies tools and techniques to evaluate design tradeoffs and verify design correctness. Uses system tools such as architectural simulators, digital design simulators and emulators, test generators, and design synthesis. The responsibilities of this role include: • Works independently with little supervision.• Provides some supervision/guidance to other members; does not have direct reports.• Decisions are moderate in nature. Errors are detected and corrected with relatively minor financial impact or effect on projects, operations, or customer relationships; may require involvement beyond immediate work group to correct. • Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question. Role may require basic negotiation and influence, cooperation, tact, and diplomacy, etc. • Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance standards for functional area within the prescribed budgetary objectives of the department. Erroneous decisions, failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel and serious delays in schedule and may impact short term goals of functional area.• Has a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to make key decisions).• Most tasks do not have defined steps; simultaneous use of multiple mental abilities is generally required to determine the best approach; mistakes may result in significant rework.• Substantial creativity is needed to innovate new processes, procedures, or work products within guidelines or to achieve established objectives.• Deductive and inductive problem solving is required; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or incomplete; intermediate data analysis/interpretation skills may be required• Occasionally participates in strategic planning within own area affecting immediate operations.Principal Duties and Responsibilities• Leads others, coordinates, and partners with closely connected teams to develop highly complex blocks, features, architecture, plans, schedules, and/or tests for vaguely-defined tasks to ensure desired quality and design completeness, functionality, power, performance, and timing standards; recommends and drives improvements.• Applies deep and broad specialty knowledge to anticipate and identify complex architecture and design problems and helps others to resolve them; provides feedback during design reviews and collaborates with other teams to align plans and designs.• Displays deep knowledge in multiple areas; acquires advanced knowledge of industry trends, competitors’ products, and advances in various engineering fields related to DSP products and technology (e.g., machine learning, modem); shares knowledge of multiple areas within their team and across teams working on similar products.• Stays abreast of current and future trends to make suggestions in strategic discussions within and/or across domains about the product/technology roadmap.• Communicates effectively with peers, senior leadership, and subordinates using written, verbally, and online communication; effectively tracks and documents issues, features, and design changes; reviews and writes clear and detailed technical documentation and feature descriptions for highly complex designs or difficult projects to guide users; reviews and provides feedback on more junior engineers’ documentation.

Physical Requirements• Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.• Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.
