General Summary

Oversees architecture, design, verification, and performance analysis for development of Machine Learning (ML) acceleration hosted by a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for Qualcomm Mobile, Automotive, IoT, and other products. The focus of the design is energy-efficient massive parallelism for ML and image processing. Determines processor architecture, micro-architecture, logic design, verification, and all performance and power aspects. Applies high-performance microprocessor design concepts including computer arithmetic, data paths, Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD), pipelining, networking, memory subsystems, bus interfaces, multi-core, multi-threaded, out-of-order, and advanced low power design. Custom instruction set is needed to achieve industry-leading results in machine learning. Applies tools and techniques to evaluate design tradeoffs and verify design correctness. Uses system tools such as architectural simulators, digital design simulators and emulators, test generators, and design synthesis. The responsibilities of this role include: • Works independently with no supervision.• Provides supervision to direct reports.• Decisions are more significant in their impact, influencing overall program or project success, finances, and/or the ability to meet objectives. Errors are not readily apparent due to the complexity of work process/product or time between decisions and results; Errors typically result in significant expenditure of time, resources, and funds to correct.• Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. Role may require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.• Overall responsibility for developing and administering budgets, schedules, and performance standards for multiple departments or functional areas. Erroneous decisions, failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel and critical delays in schedule and may jeopardize overall group business activity.• Has a great degree of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is making or directly making key decisions that will have substantial impact over the organization).• Most tasks require multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; tasks require simultaneously executing multiple cognitive abilities and maintaining information in short or long-term memory while performing the task.• Substantial creativity is needed to innovate new processes, procedures, or work products within guidelines or to achieve established objectives.• Works on abstract problems in variable situations that typically require complex analysis, interpretation, or evaluation of intangible factors. Directs the resolution of complex problems that have impact beyond own area. Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.• Occasionally participates in strategic planning within own area affecting immediate operations.Principal Duties and Responsibilities• Influences the organization by sharing a strategic vision and develops methodologies as a domain expert; directs and coordinates works across organizational teams to achieve corporate goals and develop highly complex blocks, features, architecture, plans, schedules, and/or tests to ensure desired quality and design completeness, functionality, power, performance, and timing standards; recommends and drives improvements.• Applies deep and broad knowledge when leading a team to anticipate and identify highly complex architecture and design problems and provides innovative recommendations to others for resolution; provides strategic consultation and collaborates with leadership of other teams to develop and execute design plans.• Guides team to leverage research on industry trends, competitors’ products, and advances in various engineering fields related to DSP products and technology (e.g., machine learning, modem), shares expertise within and across teams.• Leverages deep technical expertise to identify trends and define future solutions by contributing to discussions on the short- and long-term strategic direction of the product/technology roadmaps.• Guides team members within and across teams to develop clear and detailed technical documentation using written, verbally, and online communications; also reviews documentation and provides feedback to ensure it can be easily understood by a variety of audiences.

Physical Requirements• Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.• Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.
