The Director of Development (DD) is responsible for conducting a comprehensive fundraising program; this includes but is not limited to the oversight of researching, preparing, submitting, and tracking grant proposals to government funders and foundations, as well as supporting capital campaign initiatives for clinic expansion, and individual and corporate donor cultivation. The DD is responsible for building and growing a strong development team that is able to work effectively and collaboratively to support agency-wide program initiatives and objectives to achieve the organization’s short and long-term goals.
The Native American Health Center is an accredited institution and adheres to the standards of excellence set forth by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Grow, direct, and lead a development team that will manage the agency’s grant solicitation process from conceptualization through grant management. This includes oversight and support of the planning, writing, tracking, and financial management of grants from federal, state, county, and private sources.
2. Develop and maintain a comprehensive schedule of grant inquiries, proposals, and reports.
3. Work closely with Executive Leadership to identify funding streams to pursue, and ensure alignment with NAHC mission, goals, and strategic direction.
4. Oversee the management of all donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
5. In coordination with the Executive team, prepare annual development plan with corresponding budget, outlining revenue and expenses; monitor progress against goals and produce monthly reports.
6. Work with key executives and program managers to identify needs and plan fund revenue streams.
7. Design and lead site visits for foundation and government funders and prospects.
8. Stay current with foundation and government funding trends, assessment tools, and industry changes.
9. Ensure compliance with funder requirements; monitor and assist with progress reports to funders, and assist with any contract modifications/negotiations as necessary. Work with fiscal department to design grant budgets that meet agency needs and capture full costs of programs.
10. Member Care: Demonstrate understanding and apply working knowledge of safety policies and ensuring safe member practices.
11. Quality Improvement: Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards as assigned.
12. Resolve staffing issues and facilitate conflict resolution for staff under direct supervision. Hire, discipline, evaluate, and terminate staff in coordination with the Human Resources department.
13. Foster a team environment to effectively lead and retain your staff. Provide opportunities for staff to grow and develop new skills.
14. Maintain compliance with ergonomic safety standards; model good self-care to promote health and well-being for self, staff, and volunteers.
15. Safety: ensure that all duties, responsibilities, and operations are performed with the utmost regard for the safety and health of all personnel involved, including themselves.
16. Safety: Take appropriate corrective actions to address matters pertaining to employee health and safety that have been brought to your attention.
17. HIPAA: Keep all protected health information (PHI) confidential and abide by HIPAA guidelines for the release and disclosure of any PHI. Report unauthorized use of disclosure of PHI immediately to Site Director and HIPAA security officer.
18. HIPAA: Ensure the protection of all PHI and compliance of HIPAA guidelines amongst staff under your supervision. Take appropriate steps to address HIPAA concerns with staff as necessary.
19. Work extremely well under pressure, meet multiple and often competing deadlines.
20. At all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with supervisors, subordinates, colleagues, clients, and the community.
21. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
1. Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years grant writing, preferable for a federally qualified health center or nonprofit organization.
2. 5+ years of progressive nonprofit grant research, writing, and donor stewardship with proven track record of securing multiple-year federal, state, or foundation grant funding.
3. 3+ years of senior management responsibility for resource development; excellent analytical skills, and demonstrated ability to meet revenue goals.
4. Sound understanding of institutional fundraising and knowledge of the key regional and government funders.
5. Strong interpersonal and time management skills. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
6. Strong grant writing, organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills are essential.
7. Experience working closely with program managers to identify needs, plan, and manage grant/fund revenue.
