Job Title: Senior Accountant

Starting Wage: $70,000 to $75,000 DOE
Classification: Full-time Regular w/benefits

Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for all NPAIHB accounts receivable grants and contracts includes monitoring internal controls, accounting tasks and general ledger accuracy related to expenditures and reporting functions. The position collaborates closely with the Fund Accounting Manager and in the maintenance and administration of the Board’s financial systems.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for Accounting General Ledger Functions
Prepare entry to record payroll and related journal entries.
Prepare month-end journal entries as assigned.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts
Develop reports to increase efficiencies within the accounting department
Collaborate with Fund Accounting Manager in Monthly Closings.
Monitor allowable costs and correct allocations to cost centers
Monitor Budget overages and inform program directors
Assist with accounting for NPAIHB’s grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts
Assist with budget updates, correspondence, and expenditure reports in a timely manner.
Monitor appropriate G/L coding of grant and contract related transactions.
Assist with calculating Indirect Costs attributable to grants and contracts.
Monitor GL accounts relating to Grant and Contract Receivables, and Grant/Contract Revenues and Expenses.
Prepare periodic financial reports to funding agencies, as required
Other duties:
Review coding of Accounts Payable and Payroll, assuring allowability of costs and correct allocation to cost centers.
Review proposed funding requests and update budgets as necessary.
Assist in coordination of external audit.
Assist in the research of and negotiation any potential audit concerns.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field.
Knowledge of and experience working in a tribal community, tribal organization or other Indian organization. Qualified Native applicants are given preference.
Three or more years of full charge accounting experience is required; three or more years of experience with advanced accounting software applications is required.
Experience working with grants and contracts funding and budgets preferred
The successful applicant must be able to use Microsoft Office
Demonstrated accuracy and scrupulous attention to detail is required

Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent writing and grammar skills are required.
