Title: Grounds Person
Status: Full-Time / $13.00 per hour
Supervisors: Facilities Manager
Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Grounds Person will maintain all tribal properties using hand tools, power tools, and/or various landscaping equipment. The worker will typically perform a variety of tasks on a daily basis based on the needs of each area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
§ Operate a variety of power tools to maintain tribal areas
§ Maintain equipment as needed, replacing fuel, fluids, and oil (mower, weed eaters, edger, etc.)
§ Mow, edge, trim and rake fields; operate riding mowers, push mowers, light-duty vehicles, blowers, sweepers, trimmers, edger, and weed eaters
§ Rake, sweep, blow and pick up clippings, paper, and trash from various areas (exterior of homes, roadway, fields, etc.)
§ Cut away dead, obstructive, or excess branches from trees and shrubbery
§ Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch, and trimming and edging around flower beds, walks, and walls
§ Prune or treat trees or shrubs using handsaws, pruning hooks, shears, and clippers
§ Remove debris and cart away for disposal
§ Operating tractors safely and efficiently.
§ Utilize independent judgment in performing grounds maintenance activities
§ Performs other related duties as directed by the Facilities Manager
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
§ Knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, and equipment used to complete the necessary tasks
§ Knowledge of the operation and care of equipment, tools, and supplies used relating to the job
§ Knowledge of safe work procedures in the operation of hand and power tools
§ Knowledge of materials and products used in grounds keeping and grounds maintenance work
§ Knowledge of basic grounds maintenance procedures including mowing, edging, raking, and weeding
§ Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with other employees and the public
§ Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work with prolonged standing and walking for extended periods, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, stretching, bending, and pushing, stooping, climbing, crouching, crawling, moving, lifting, and carrying loads weighing 100 pounds
§ Exposure to inclement weather conditions while performing work, including exposure to wet and/or humid conditions
§ Work is performed outdoors while exposed to fumes, odors, dust, dirt, rain, heat, cold, chemicals, and machinery with moving parts
§ The noise level in the work environment is loud when operating equipment
§ Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
§ MANDATORY valid Class C California driver’s license.
§ Experience in ground maintenance and related equipment, irrigation systems, hand tools, and operating a tractor preferred.
§ Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians.
