Overview
The Instructional Design Specialist (IDS) supports the Learning & Development team to meet Enterprise and Tribal needs through leadership development, skills-based development, various learning projects, and organizational development initiatives to promote the training and enhancement of all San Manuel employees. The goal is to support learners in acquiring knowledge, skills, and competencies in an effective and engaging manner to support a high-performance culture. The IDS works as an integral part of a consultative and collaborative learning and development team responsible for the assessment, design, development, evaluation, and deployment of quality learning opportunities for the enterprise.
The IDS reports directly to the Manager, Learning and Development and is responsible for the analysis, recommendation, design, development, maintenance, and quality assurance of online learning modules, live web-based training sessions, instructor-led training materials, and other supporting materials as needed, following an instructional design process. The IDS employs strong interpersonal, written, and visual communication skills to bring together text, images, video, and audio to communicate and educate our talent.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Develops training modules and instructional materials that meet key learning objectives, and the target audience needs. Creates and publishes learning content and materials using outlines, storyboards, procedures, policies, etc., to support enterprise and Human Resources objectives. Materials include articles, videos, animations, digital learnings, information graphics, job aids, PowerPoints, etc.
2. Applies tested instructional design theories, practices, and methods to ensure learning objectives are met with the most appropriate and dynamic end products. Defines, designs, and applies the criteria used to measure training effectiveness and develop content assessment instruments.
3. Supports the administrative tasks and logistical coordination of facilitation on behalf of the Learning & Development team, including publishing the monthly training class calendar, preparing the training room, printing/ copying training materials, and engaging in new course pilots. Generates training and learning management system reports and develops charts and data-driven presentations for communicating L&D metrics to leadership.
4. Monitors and brings forward new industry trends and technology for industry leading learning content development.
5. Optimizes the training portfolio and maintains project documentation and course folders.
6. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
Education/Experience/Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, or related field required.
- Minimum four (4) years of solid instructional design and development experience in a corporate environment as an internal practitioner/business partner providing instructional design services utilizing ADDIE or equivalent instructional design methodologies required.
- Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.
- Mastery of MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook) required.
- Demonstrated success developing content used in a variety of training delivery methods such as classroom training, on-the-job training, eLearning, workshops, virtual learning.
- Knowledge of learning and development principles and practices, adult learning theory, curriculum design, needs assessment and evaluation methodology. Familiarity with current and emerging trends in learning design and development.
- Solid experience using course development software (such as Articulate) and at least one Learning Management System, Workday Learning preferred.
- Excellent visual design skills using tools such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator and ability to storyboard.
- Ability to create and edit audio and video files using Adobe software, including Premier Pro and Audition.
- Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, and audio scripts/video scripts using proper English language syntax and tone appropriate to the audience.
- Strong cross-functional project management skills.
- Experience with voice recordings and comfortable narrating content.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
- At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
- A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
- Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) certification desired.
