GENERAL SUMMARY

Lead and manage teams of highly experienced HW engineers to design and develop motherboards, add in cards/modules/alternate form factor boards for Qualcomm new ASIC in the fields of compute, AI and 5G. Conducts simulations and analyses of designs. Develops emulation solutions. Evaluates, characterizes, and develops the manufacturing solution for leading-edge products in the most advanced processes. Interfaces with various cross-functional teams (e.g. Designers, Software/System Engineering, Architecture Development, Business Groups, Customers, Customer Engineering) to drive and incorporate the latest test solutions in the production program to improve the yield, test time, and quality. Evaluates reliability of materials, properties, and techniques used in production. The responsibilities of this role include: • Working independently with no supervision.• Making decisions that are significant in impact, influencing overall program or project success, finances, and/or the ability to meet objectives; errors are not readily apparent due to the complexity of work process/product or time between decisions and results; errors typically result in significant expenditure of time, resources, and funds to correct. • Using verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. May require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.• Responsible to ensure budgets, schedules, and performance standards for functional areas and organization are realistically set and attained. Erroneous decisions, failure to achieve objectives results in significant long-term impact on the company’s overall success.• Having a great degree of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is making or directly making key decisions that have substantial impact on the organization).• Completing tasks that require multiple steps that can be performed in various orders; tasks require simultaneously executing multiple cognitive abilities and maintaining information in short- or long-term memory.• Regularly determines what needs to be done and is involved with sharing innovative solutions to achieve broad policies and objectives.• Working on abstract problems in variable situations that typically require complex analysis, interpretation, or evaluation of intangible factors. Directs the resolution of complex problems that have impact beyond own area. Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.• Develops, redesigns organizational strategies and provides overall direction for various functional areas and/or entire organization. Has influence over the formulation and achievement of long-term business plans and objectives. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Oversees the execution of product proposals or roadmaps of various levels of complexity across multiple cross-functional teams in multiple departments working on design-related tasks for product proposals; defines strategy and direction for managed teams.• Organizes and leads multiple cross-functional engineering teams across multiple departments on the design, development, modification, and evaluation of components for electronic hardware, equipment, and/or integrated circuitry; ensures that design principles and practices are aligned with established quality standards and practices of the organization.• Reviews and approves suggested modifications to device specification sheets; identifies multiple innovative ways to add value to existing products and shares this information with cross-functional teams across multiple departments.• Ensures that multiple cross-functional and cross-discipline teams of engineers are able to continuously improve testing procedures and/or designs through optimization and automation; creates a culture that promotes and drives innovative solutions for process improvement.• Monitors the progress of multiple teams of engineers across departments on evaluation of various design features for potential flaws (electrical, mechanical, hardware), compatibility issues, and/or compliance issues; shares key insights and findings with stakeholders across the organization.• Ensures multiple cross-functional teams of engineers are comprehensively documenting various materials, components, chipsets, and how functions interact; identifies potential compatibility, safety, or compliance issues.• Organizes engineering teams conducting troubleshooting tasks for both internal and external stakeholders to ensure solutions are identified and issues are resolved across multiple departments.• Works closely with a wide variety of internal customers to anticipate product support needs related to materials, production, assembly, and or testing; represents department in discussions with internal customers and aligns product design and testing teams across the organization to proactively address customers’ needs.• Acts as organizational lead and technical advisor to ensure multiple major projects are driven to completion and are aligned with the vision and goals defined by senior leadership; anticipates potential project issues and develops plan to mitigate risks.• Manages and monitors the progress of multiple cross-functional engineering project teams working on a range of project families being developed across multiple geographic locations and time zones and resolves major staffing or conflicting priority issues to ensure schedules are kept; brings new projects to department.• Leverages internal and external networks and collaborates with other departments to develop IPs; communicates effectively with legal department regarding IP requirements; utilizes deep knowledge of IP process to provide guidance to more junior engineers. • Leverages internal and external networks to identify forward looking technologies and industry trends, competitor products, and advances in various engineering fields from publically available information; shares this information across teams and the organization. Directs research topics for team based on resources available. • Monitors the progress of multiple engineering teams across departments that are conducting specialized analyses (e.g., feasibility studies, signal integrity, power integrity, teardown analyses); shares the documented results of these analyses across the organization.REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:(All competencies below are required upon entry)• Analytical Skills – The ability to collect information and identify fundamental patterns/trends in data. This also includes the ability to get things done with fewer resources and in less time, work on multiple tasks at once without losing track, and foresee and plan around obstacles.• Hardware Design – Knowledge of and the ability to understand advanced or complex hardware design elements in order to carry out designs, upgrades, and technology roadmaps.• Knowledge of PCIe card, motherboard, daughtercard, and backplane signal and power delivery, chassis design and thermal management. Solid understanding of system software operation from lowest level boot to OS and application layers.• Knowledge in high speed (6-10+ Gbps) serial IO design, signal integrity, PCI-E Gen3/4, LPDDR4x/5x, DDR4/5. Physical design of systems with long (0.35-1.0 meter) PCB or cable topologies. Up to date with current standards body requirements. Understanding of link, transport, transaction and command levels for PCIe, with ability to debug at packet/protocol level. Experience qualifying power management ICs (PMICs), voltage regulator (VR) components, clock buffers, flash memory, connectors and incorporating into complex card designs.• Experience in the validation of motherboards, daughtercards, backplane, connectors, cables and components. Experience in dense high layer count designs, 8-20+ layers.• Hardware Infrastructure – The ability to implement and integrate IT hardware for use in business environments and assist in designing its main features according to business needs. This includes the ability to track and report operational problems. This also includes the ability to compare IT hardware across one’s own organization and its competitors.• Mentoring and Coaching – The ability to develop, coach, and mentor associates. This includes the ability to provide development experiences and network opportunities, advise, and teach to prepare associates for effective job performance.• Project Management – The ability to use organizational skills for purposes of planning and decision-making. This includes developing and communicating objectives, timelines, assignments, and goals. This also includes the ability to scope projects, orchestrate multiple activities at once, and use resources efficiently across functional areas within the enterprise.Ideal candidates for this position will demonstrate the following: • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field.• 15+ years Hardware Engineering/Systems development experience or related work experience.• 4+ years experience with circuit design (e.g., digital, analog, RF).• 4+ years experience utilizing schematic capture and circuit simulation software.• 4+ years experience with hardware design and measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF tools, etc. • 4+ years working with operating budgets and/or project financials.• 4+ years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports.

• Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 5 lbs.

• Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).

• Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.
