Company:Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Job Area:Engineering Group, Engineering Group > SoC Architecture

Job Overview:

Qualcomm is a company of inventors that unlocked 5G ushering in an age of rapid acceleration in connectivity and new possibilities that will transform industries, create jobs, and enrich lives. But this is just the beginning. It takes inventive minds with diverse skills, backgrounds, and cultures to transform 5Gs potential into world-changing technologies and products. This is the Invention Age – and this is where you come in.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Research, innovate and provide SoC architecture platforms and solutions for all SoC’s across QCT. Engage collaboratively across teams and organizational boundaries, including with Hardware design & Verification, Software, Product Management and Product Planning teams to create leading SoC-wide solutions that provide the best-in-class cost, performance, and power. Develop, model and prototype new system solutions and approaches across functional tech IPs that allow our hardware technologies to be used efficiently and allow our customers to make better use of our hardware. Conduct hands-on workload analysis including algorithm optimization and analysis of performance and/or power characterizations to help define our SoC architecture solutions. Deploy simulators, profilers, and hardware solutions to provide quantitative justification for architectural directions. Efficiently communicate experimental results, review with technical leads and peers, and analyze outstanding issues. Innovate and develop new cross-IP SoC-wide solutions that enable existing and emerging market SoCs to meet their separate, unique product requirements for these technology areas: Power System, Shared Resource Management, Limits/Thermal Management, Hardware Islands, Debug, Safety, ARM Compliance, Exclusive Monitors and Far Atomics, Coherency, Memory Ordering, Memory Management, Virtualization, Control Processors, Signaling, Compression, Streaming, Always-On and system level ML.The responsibilities of this role include: • Works independently with little supervision.• Provides some supervision/guidance to other members; does not have direct reports.• Decisions are moderate in nature. Errors are detected and corrected with relatively minor financial impact or effect on projects, operations, or customer relationships. May require involvement beyond immediate work group to correct. • Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question. Role may require basic negotiation and influence, cooperation, tact, and diplomacy, etc. • Works within the prescribed budgetary objectives of the department. Erroneous decisions, failure to achieve results may cause delays in schedules and result in the re-allocation of some resources.• Has a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to make key decisions).• Most tasks do not have defined steps; simultaneous use of multiple mental abilities is generally required to determine the best approach; mistakes may result in significant rework.• Exceptional creativity to innovate new ideas and develop innovative products/ processes without established objectives or known parameters.• Deductive and inductive problem solving is required; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or conflicting; advanced data analysis and interpretation skills are required.• Occasionally participates in strategic planning within own area affecting immediate operations.Principal Duties and Responsibilities• Gathers, researches, and helps define cross-functional requirements (e.g., performance, power, cost).• Develops architecture for moderately complex feature components under broad guidance.• Debugs moderately complex issues for own and others’ code and recommends solutions; participates in model/design reviews and helps identify model/design improvements.• Builds advanced models, maintains platform, methodology, and tools for modeling and runs simulations and analyses of power, performance, and other KPIs at the block level; works with team to evaluate the impact of results on system or customer requirements.• Consults with internal or external users to guide implementation of feature architecture and ensure alignment with their needs and goals.• Displays deep knowledge in a specific area; acquires advanced knowledge of industry trends, competitors’ products, and advances in various engineering fields related to area of specialization; shares knowledge with others on their team and helps less experienced engineers understand and apply advanced concepts.• Stays abreast of current and future trends to make suggestions in strategic discussions within a domain about the product/technology roadmap.• Contributes to conversations to generate new ideas for new initiatives; provides recommendations for new directions to explore.• Writes clear and detailed technical documentation, specifications, and/or feature descriptions for complex projects to guide users and/or customers to use or implement output.

Physical Requirements• Frequently transports and install equipment up to 5 lbs.• Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g. standing or sitting).• Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.• Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.
