At Televeda, we’re building solutions to help keep vulnerable communities connected. We’re a social venture combating social isolation. Our end users are typically members of under-resourced communities. We must create a design process that centers their voices while celebrating the creativity and knowledge present in the community.

The candidate will be an expert in Indigenous Design, the process of thinking/making, through indigenous perspectives and worldviews. The focus is on digital product design that takes into account nature and various traditions that build upon First Nations and/or Indigenous Peoples values. Experience working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset.

At Televeda, our mission is to alleviate social isolation for vulnerable & minority groups, particularly amongst the elderly. We offer a collaborative and flexible work environment. As our Product Designer & Indigenous Researcher you will be working directly with the product, marketing, and engineering teams. The work experience will include user interface and user experience design, best practices in accessibility patterns and security. We’re still a small team so it’s a great opportunity to play a key role in developing a powerful brand that impacts many lives.

This role will identify and prioritize opportunities to ensure the business meet their conformance obligations, while simultaneously building internal capacity to sustain inclusive developed practices. They will be responsible for culturally-appropriate and sensitivity research catering to unique indigenous experiences and incentives (names, language, onboarding, illustrations), working with developers to ensure racially equitable AI models, improving adherence to local community support programs run by traditional-healers, IHS, VA, and state healthcare departments using human-centered design and a public health lens to better understand how to prevent suicide among Veterans and improve community health outcomes.

Here’s what you will be working on:

  • Developing the user experience flow around the use of the product experience
    Designing and drafting UI mockups for the software team
    Plan and conduct user research and user tests in an accessible and equitable way.
    Attending meetings, our live classes and related 1-1s with stakeholders
    Developing brand and design guidelines
    Implementing accessibility checks
    Facilitate workshops, design sprints, and ideation sessions with both communities and end users to make sure their voices are truly represented.
    Creating UX assets, mockups and style guides making sure the final design assets are accessible, impactful, and equitable.

Requirements:

  • At least 3-5 years of Product Design experience
    Portfolio which demonstrates experience with UX Design across multiple verticals
    Degree in Design, Anthropology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Factors, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
    Experience interacting with cross-functional teams and, especially, an engineering teams
    Modular design experience
    Ability to juggle multiple projects at once with strict deadlines
    Experience using data to influence design
    Exceptional communication skills, empathy, and high EQ
