POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Director of Events & Programming serves a crucial role in supporting the organization’s mission by leading the development and production of events, conferences, meetings, webinars, and other forms of convening {“events”) to connect tribes with subject matter experts, vetted resource providers, critical information, and each other in useful and meaningful gatherings that uphold Indigenous cultural values.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Conducts short- and long-term planning and management for all Alliance internal and external meetings, events, and programming for in-person, virtual, and blended formats.

Works closely with the Alliance senior leadership, communications, and information resources teams, determines event objectives, audience, budgets, and marketing plans, and manages within approved plans.

Works closely with Alliance creative, communications, and public relations teams to ensure marketing collaterals are aligned to event requirements and to create innovative and culturally appropriate event elements, using internal capabilities or outsourcing to qualified vendors where appropriate.

Solicits and books venue and associated vendors, as well as the planning, merchandising, execution, and management of the events.

Administers all events and programming department phases, including but not limited to planning, marketing, servicing, and administrative procedures.

Coaches and counsels employees and vendors to reflect Alliance’s cultural and performance ethos, standards, and procedures.

Researches, recommends, and implements new technologies to enhance content delivery and user experience.

Works with Alliance subject matter experts and department heads to recruit, select, and manage event speakers to ensure the current, relevant, and superb event content and a smooth and pleasant experience for the speakers.

Initiates cross-functional collaboration efforts to refine content delivery and user experience.
Conducts orientation training on events and programming for new employees.

Lead the budgeting process to assist the development team with securing funds for events and programming.

Supports the CEO in managing activities and communications with the Board of Directors and with virtual and in-person meetings of the Board.

Represents and supports the Alliance’s participation at third-party events and meetings as needed.
