The Suquamish Tribe is recruiting for a Communications Coordinator in the Administration Department.  The incumbent is responsible for the creation and implementation of a strategic, multi-faceted communications program designed to build and strengthen the Suquamish Tribe’s role and reputation as a leader and authoritative voice in Indian Country. The Communications Coordinator also devises program guidelines and policies, oversees the implementation process, and provides quality control for all Tribal communications programs, media activities, and special events. Monitor media information regarding the Suquamish Tribe, Tribal community, and local community released by outside media and organizations and establish and oversee system for maintaining and archiving press clippings.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Indian Country essential
Strong oral communication  and effective writing skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas effectively in private and public settings
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population
Ability to work independently and, in same environment, work with a large team of people with diverse backgrounds
Ability to complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on deadline
Ability to follow through on assigned tasks with limited supervision
Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to edit and proofread
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Mature, professional attitude and appearance
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publishing and Adobe Acrobat Professional.


Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or journalism required;
Experience of 3 or more years in public or media relations, communications or journalism with demonstrated news coverage placements
Must have high moral character and integrity, be honest, and trustworthy
State/Federal & Tribal Criminal Background check required

Valid WA State Driver’s License required

Pre-Employment drug testing required

Native American preference
