The Suquamish Tribe is recruiting for a Lead Groundskeeper for the Maintenance Department.  The Lead Supervisor supervises the grounds crew, coordinates the planning and execution of the grounds maintenance, orders and maintains supplies of materials necessary for grounds maintenance, and coordinates the maintenance and repair of grounds equipment in addition to performing grounds keeping work with his or her crew.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·        Strong ability to work alone and as a part of team

·        Solid supervisory and training skills

·        Demonstrated ability to be punctual, follow schedules, meet deadlines, and efficiently conduct work

·        Show capability to follow the work place chain of command

·        Have aptitude to work on multiple tasks during the same work shift

·        Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of grounds keeping tools and equipment safely and efficiently, including but not limited to: Riding mowers, power mowers, various tractors, chain saws, edgers, weed eaters, etc…

·        Demonstrated ability to train junior personnel in operating all grounds keeping equipment and tools in a safe and proper manner


·        High School Diploma or equivalent required

·        Minimum two (2) years prior experience in grounds keeping field

·        Minimum one (1) year supervisory experience or equivalent supervisory training

·        Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift sixty (60) pounds on a regular basis

·        Demonstrate the ability to operate a variety of grounds equipment

·        Must have reliable transportation

Job Conditions:

Position requires regular physical exertion throughout daily shift including recurring climbing, pushing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, bending, and lifting of heavy items up to 60 pounds

Position has a non-traditional work schedule which includes being assigned frequently and regularly between the day shift and weekend shifts

Duties require the operation of a variety grounds keeping equipment and tools including but not limited to mowers, edgers, chainsaws, tractors as well as a variety of Maintenance Department and Tribal government vehicles

Work will require wearing protective gear including but not limited to safety glasses, mask, gloves, and inclement weather gear when required

Work is performed mainly outside during a variety of weather conditions, including inclement weather and, on occasion, severe weather conditions

State/Federal/Tribal Background check required

Valid WA State Driver’s License required

Pre-Employment drug testing required

Native American preference
