Overview

Job Summary:
Performs all activities relating to menu planning, shopping, and food preparation including clean-up, health, safety and sanitation procedures, daily menu & production records and monthly Reports. Provide leadership and management of cultural activities and functions in the Early College High School and K-12 services within Daily services and special events.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Prepares traditional foods in conjunction with balanced and special needs diets that meet the dietary requirements of the USDA. Coordinates with the Suquamish Nutrition Staff.
2. Keep daily log of student’s meal counts.
3. Assure Menu and Production Records are completed daily and in order.
4. Prepares a monthly report.
5. Prepare, one month in advance, menus for all the programs of the Education Department.
6. Do inventory of food and non-food supplies.
7. Maintains a par list of stock on hand to alleviate over and under ordering.
8. Maintains health, safety and sanitation procedures.
9. Prepare shopping list and do the ordering with the food service that we are currently using, in a timely manner.
10. Maintains a good working relationship with staff, volunteer, community agencies and personnel from host site.
11. Work with students and their special needs with special focus on traditional native issues and cultural teachings.
12. Assist children in developing appropriate social skills and traditional Native American values.
13. Help with the daily academics that are designed to stimulate learning.
14. Maintain current CPR/FIRST AID, Food Handler’s Permit and any other certificates as needed by the Education Department.
15. Any other duties that pertain to the position as designated by Principal/ Superintendent.
Secondary Functions:
1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Education Director or Supervisor.
2. Remain knowledgeable in K-12 Education Services.
3. Occasional out-of town travels to attend necessary training, meetings, and activities as assigned.
Education and or Experience:
1. High School Diploma or GED
2. USDA Training
3. Experience working with children in a classroom setting.
4. Ability to flex hours as needed and must be adaptable to change.
5. Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
6. Drug Test and background Check.
7. Valid First Aid CPR ,Food Handler’s Certifications.
8. Must have good written and verbal communication skill.
9. Strong organization and planning abilities.
10. Indian Preference.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of preparation of all types of cooked foods and baked goods (meat, vegetables, soups, gravies, breads, etc.) to feed 25 – 125 people.
2. Use and care of basic kitchen equipment.
3. Understanding of food safety and sanitation, including but not limited to food borne illness prevention, etc.
4. Skill in the use of standardized recipes. Knowledge and skill in increasing and reducing standard recipes.
5. Ability to work closely with students, volunteers and staff.
6. Must maintain a current food handler’s permit.
Specific Job Skills:
1. State/Tribal background checks required.
2. Employee must submit to FBI fingerprinting.
3. Valid Washington State Drivers License
