Overview
Summary
Responsible for the protection of Native American children and the preservation of their families; protect the best interests of the child to ensure children reside in an adequate physical and emotional environment that will protect and
promote the health, safety, and development of the child; provide child welfare services in accordance with traditions,
laws and cultural values of the Suquamish Tribe, and the Indian Child Welfare Act.
Your Education / Experience
• Minimum High School Diploma, or equivalent required.
• BA Degree in Social Services or related field desired.
Your Responsibilities
• Ensure the protection and preservation of children and their families in accordance with tribal, state and federal law
before and during a child dependency action.
• Maintain the confidentiality of all records, materials, and communications concerning the identity of clients as
required by tribal, federal and state law.
• Maintain an organized and efficient system for client files and paperwork consistent with tribal law and departmental
procedures.
• Write reports required for case management and as required by the Court. Attend court hearings and testify in court
proceedings.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with tribal staff, tribal courts, and law enforcement.
• Work with Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, CPS, local school district, and private
agencies as assigned.
• Provide consultation with chemical dependency or mental health providers.
• Perform other related duties as deemed necessary or requested by the department supervisor.
Qualifications You’ll Bring
• Experience and knowledge in providing crisis intervention.
• Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality.
• Knowledge of community, tribal, county and state resources, and ability to maintain positive relations with those
resources.
• Fundamental expressive and receptive communication skills including but not limited to a proficiency in reading,
writing, and verbal discourse; the philosophy of the interdisciplinary team process and procedures of individual
behavior management and skill acquisition.
• Must have some knowledge of Indian Country.
