Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Formulates, implements, and monitors facilities management policies and programs. Develops plans to meet objectives and deliver results. Manages fiscal, physical and personnel resources and may manage multiple facilities and personnel.
The Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH) Sr. Superintendent for Site Protection is responsible for the leading and coordinating of the operation, maintenance and repair of the facilities in multiple colleges including HDH structures, grounds, and associated systems. The systems include but are not limited to roofing, exterior envelope, landscaping, hardscaping, interior finishes, low pressure boiler systems, steam generators, lift stations, chillers up to 60 tons, various refrigeration and freezer systems, HVAC systems, HVAC controls to include direct digital electronic and pneumatic controls, fire alarm systems, elevators, emergency generators, interior and exterior plumbing, and electrical systems. Formulate solutions for facility problems, develop construction projects where necessary and manage those contracted projects through completion and payment. Develop long range maintenance/repair project plans and assist in establishing annual budgets for those plans. Provide technical and general supervision over skilled, semi-skilled, and specialized staff in accomplishing their daily work. Participates in division’s budget development and management, short and long term strategic planning and other high level projects as assigned by the Director of HDH’s Property Operations and Planning Division.
Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH) is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 7 divisions, with approximately 700 career employees, 1000 to 1200 student employees and an annual operating budget of greater than $189 million. HDH provides housing for approximately 15,000 undergraduates, grad students, faculty, staff and their families in over 400 buildings covering approximately 6 million sq. ft. HDH is in the midst of implementing an aggressive building plan which will add 5000 new beds and almost double our square footage by 2021. Currently, HDH houses 38% of UCSD’s enrolled students with a goal of housing 50% in the near future. HDH provides maintenance and repair, contract meals/meal plan management, as well as retail food service, conference services and catering services to residents, students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
Be available to respond to urgent call about HDH facility problems during other than normal duty hours, resolving them in a timely manner. This responsibility of the job is not intended to require the employee to be restricted in their mobility in any way and simply requires them to respond to the call, determine an appropriate and timely course of action, and then provide the caller (normally UCSD Police dispatch or the HDH Customer Service Center) the appropriate guidance to resolve the facility issues.

• Demonstrated experience to make short and long range plans for the maintenance, repair, and renovation of Housing and Dining Services facilities.
• Working knowledge of contracting practices and ability to develop scopes of work, cost estimates, and necessary contract request and performance acceptance documents.
• Experience and skills needed to lead and manage a technically complex, diverse and widely dispersed work team. Maintaining a large physical plant to include structures, mechanical and electrical systems, control systems, and the supporting utility infrastructure.
• Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills and strong customer service background.
• Strong working knowledge of utilizing a computer, Microsoft suite software, work management software, controls software (such as Metasys) and mobile technologies.
• Demonstrated expertise in developing an operating budget and effectively managing allocations.
• Demonstrated skill to effectively evaluate the performance of the team and its individual members; use of sound judgment when recommending hiring, promotions and labor relation actions.
• Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills to prioritize assignments, set goals, and project department needs, while meeting deadlines. Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities at the same time.
• Experience and successful completion of large-scale projects for elevator modernizations, repairs, alterations, with demonstrated management of associated personnel and maintenance contracts.
• Experience in managing implementation and installation of new technologies for advanced metering systems, radio frequency utility tracking and associated software.
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge in fire alarm system upgrades, all associated NFPA codes, mandated testing, incident reporting, and new installations including radio frequency technologies.
• Demonstrated leadership and experience managing large scale access control projects and maintenance including door replacement, electronic lock profile creation and programming, alterations and retrofits, lock changes, key issuance, database management, and new electronic lock installations.
• Demonstrated expertise in fire pump systems and water storage tanks for high rise fire sprinkler systems with strong knowledge of design, maintenance, and required testing.
• Demonstrated skill with large-scale Building Management System design and control system implementation including monitoring and operation of hydronic heating, chilled water, pumping systems, domestic water systems and all associated infrastructure and components.
• Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
• Valid California Driver’s License, must maintain a safe driving record and participate in the DMV Pull Program.
