Department Summary
Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM) is a vibrant department, which comprises five units, and approximately 270 employees: Facilities Services, Utilities & Energy, Campus Planning, Office of Sustainability, and Design & Construction. The units of CPFM strive to provide excellent customer service to the University of Oregon campus and operate with the highest professional standards, communicating and collaborating with customers to support the stewardship of the campus.

Facilities Services (FS) is responsible for the management of human, financial and material resources and the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures related to the operation, maintenance, repair and minor renovation of university buildings, grounds, and infrastructure systems. These services provide the University of Oregon community with a safe, efficient, reliable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing learning environment in support of the University’s mission and vision.

The University of Oregon Portland provides a range of academic and student support programs at its campus in Portland. Students at UO Portland are enrolled in professional master’s degree programs offered by the College of Design, School of Journalism and Communication, and the Lundquist College of Business. Law students can complete their 3rd year of law school on the Portland campus, and a fifth-year undergraduate program is offered in Product Design. The Ballmer Institute for Children’s Behavioral Health will offer an undergraduate degree, and a certificate program, and serve as the home for a robust research portfolio. There are also programs offering professional education and several research centers. UO Portland provides a range of support services for students including advising, counseling, and internship opportunities, as well as housing, dining, and recreational opportunities beginning fall of 2023 at the new NE Portland campus.

Position Summary
This Trades Maintenance Worker 2 position provides support for all areas of campus covered by the University of Oregon Facilities Services. The position is responsible for a wide range of maintenance and repair activities in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems as well as general support for Facilities Services.

This is the second level of a two-level series. It is distinguished from the lower level by responsibility for performing tasks independently without guidance of a skilled tradesperson. At this level, employees are expected to determine the best methods and sequence of tasks to accomplish assigned duties efficiently and effectively. Employees in this class may assist a variety of journey level tradespeople and may be considered a jack-of-all-trades.

Interactions and contacts occur daily with the campus community in the course of performing work and responding to emergencies. This position is a representative and frequently the face of Facilities Services. Exceptional customer service is required at all times. It is essential that tasks be completed in a timely and accurate manner while exercising good judgment in requesting assistance when appropriate.

Work is reviewed directly by the Portland Campus Facilities Manager to ensure it is performed efficiently, safely, and meets both expectations and applicable requirements. A performance appraisal is conducted annually.

Driving Requirement:
This position will require a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain UO Driver’s Certification.

On Call Rotation:
This position may be required to participate in an on call rotation. Being on call requires the participant to live in an area with cell phone reception or to be within cell phone reception for the entire duration of the on call period. On call also requires the participant to be within a 1 hour drive of the UO campus for the entire duration of the on call period to be able to respond to issues if needed. On call periods are typically 1-4 weeks in duration.

Essential Personnel:
This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.

Minimum Requirements
• Three years of general building maintenance experience in one or more of the following trade areas: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, and welding.

NOTE: Some positions may require licensure or certification in a specific trade area.
