Director of Development
Wishtoyo Foundation (“Wishtoyo”), a Native-led non-profit, is a place, organization, and movement inspiring people to live in harmony with our Earth again. Wishtoyo, the Chumash word for rainbow, serves as a “rainbow bridge” linking Chumash and Indigenous lifeways to the protection of natural and cultural resources through education, community organizing, research, and advocacy.

Wishtoyo is seeking a Director of Development (“Director”) to join our team. The Director will play an important role in supporting Wishtoyo’s mission through fundraising efforts. Strong candidates will be a self-starter who has excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task. We’re interested in hiring a dynamic, innovative individual with a proven track record of fostering strong donor relationships. As a small organization our team often wears many hats, working collaboratively to achieve our goals. The Director will manage the department and report to the Executive Director. Primary responsibilities will support fundraising efforts that align with Wishtoyo’s values including, but not limited to, events, major gifts, grants, sponsorship, membership, campaigns and communications.

Responsibilities:
·      Collaborate with the Executive & Associate Director to develop and implement Wishtoyo’s annual strategic fundraising plan
·      Build, manage and execute fundraising campaigns
·      Manage and implement the foundation and corporate grants program to maximize unrestricted and
restricted contributions.
·      Develop a major gifts program to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors capable of making larger gifts in addition to their annual operating support.
Identify, cultivate, provide outreach to and communicate with new and existing donors and grantors
·      Oversee data entry and donation tracking software, maintain list of current and prospective donors, foundations and corporate sponsors
·      Identify and pursue sources of funding from corporations, individuals, foundations, and organizations
·      Prospect, write, and submit grant proposals
·      In collaboration with social media coordinator, ensure all social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) is active and updated regularly with development related campaigns
·      Ensure the gift acknowledgement process offers an optimal donor experience
·      Oversee and expand sustaining membership program
·      Prepare Board reports & communications
·      Plan and host annual gala and other events
Skilled in developing key relationships with individuals while building rapport quickly to deliver results
·      Liaise with program staff on grant reports, data collection and communications with grantor
·      Maintain confidentiality of information and records
·      Develop fundraising materials and donor communications including Annual Report
·      Other duties as assigned
Skills and Experience:
·      Bachelor’s degree required
·      Strong communication skills and must be comfortable making public presentations and engaging with donors
·      Alignment and sincere affinity for the mission, vision, and values of Wishtoyo Foundation
·      At least five years experience in nonprofit fundraising events, grants and campaigns
·      Demonstrated successful experience working with donors and volunteers
·      Proficient use of office technology, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
·      Attention to detail and strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
This job is in Santa Paula, CA, however, a hybrid schedule may be considered.  This is a full-time benefit eligible exempt position, range $85k – $95k commensurate with experience.
