Overview
The Accounts Payable Specialist will have specific responsibility for ensuring that all invoices are processed in a timely manner, which will include matching and/or preparing purchase orders, coding in compliance with the tribal chart of accounts, obtaining appropriate signatures, and entering into the accounting database. The Accounts Payable Specialist will also develop and present to Payroll and Accounts Payable Manager the invoices being prepared for payment. The position will also assist in the maintenance of the accounting department files.

Principle Duties
1. Provides day-to-day accounts payable activities including purchase order review, data entry, reconciling vendor statements, and year-end W9 processing
2. Processes travel advances and reconciliations in accordance with policies and procedures
3. Assists with the maintenance of the internal controls and compliance requirements as required in federal regulations and the adopted internal controls ordinance of the Samish Indian Nation
4. Reconciles credit card statements for payment and processing
5. Assists the Controller in the preparation for the annual audit in accordance with OMB Circular A-133
6. Develops extensive knowledge in tribal governmental accounting policies and procedures
7. Works closely with the Payroll and Accounts Payable Manager, Finance Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer and/or Treasurer regarding project expenditures
8. Maintains a clean and professional work environment
9. Works cooperatively with all Samish council and employees
10. Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
1. Three years work experience in general business accounting procedures; fund accounting experience within a Tribal, State, Federal or Local government setting is a PLUS, or four year accounting degree may be substituted for lack of experience
2. Must be highly proficient with Microsoft Office and able to learn fund accounting software
3. Must have capacity for accurate data entry, reconciliation, and file management with directly related experience
4. Must be able to lift/carry up to 20lbs
