Overview

The Bioinformatics Analyst will report to Professor Ali Torkamani, Director of Genomics at The Scripps Translational Science Institute and Professor M. Reza Ghadiri, Department of Chemistry at Scripps Research and Member of the Skaggs Institute for Chemical Biology to provide practical, creative, and comprehensive solutions to cutting edge problems in genetics and genomics and chemical biology of the gut microbiome. This role will work with a small team of computational and quantitative biologists on genomics projects primarily focused on the analysis of microbiome populations and their changes in relation to disease and other perturbations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
(*) Perform programming and analysis, coding with Python, Java, etc.
(*) Perform comprehensive cohort level statistical genetics analyses from microbiome data – including 16S profiling an abundance characterization, shotgun sequence-based microbiome analysis, and transcriptome base functional microbiome analysis.
(*) Manipulate large genomic datasets, primarily with existing genomic software packages.
(*) Ensure data quality, integrity and testing.
(*) Be part of a dynamic and cohesive team of highly trained and successful researchers.
(*) Contribute to scientific publications and open source projects.
