Summary
Provide substance abuse intervention services to the diverse clients of the Wellness Program as defined in the policy and
procedures manuals for the Intensive Outpatient Program. Provide individual and group counseling on issues related to
substance abuse.
Your Education / Experience
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred, although an AA degree may be considered with experience in the substance use disorder
field. Must be licensed with the State of Washington as a Substance Use Disorder Professional or Substance Use Disorder
Professional Trainee.
• Must have experience in direct client care in the substance use disorder field. Experience with meeting the unique needs
of Native American populations is preferred.
Your Responsibilities
• Provide group intervention to clients under the guidelines of the intensive outpatient program guidelines.
• Provide individual counseling to clients in the program whose programs requires individual periodic contacts with
counselor
• Provide family counseling as assigned for these clients. Aid families to participate in the client’s recovery process.
• Provide referral services to persons in need of identified services.
• Serve as a member of the Wellness intervention team organizing and providing community education sessions as directed
by supervisors.
• Perform within federal regulations of confidentiality,the Counselor Code of Ethics established by the Northwest Indian
Alcohol/Drug Specialist Certification Board.
• Submit a list of attendees of intensive Outpatient for program tracking.
• Maintain open communication with other tribal and non-tribal agencies in the best interests of clients and maintain open
and cooperative relationships with co-workers.
• Ensure that all active clients on the caseload have a jointly developed treatment plan within one week of intake and that
a service plan is developed for all clients receiving referral and that 100% of all discharged clients have a mutually
developed Aftercare plan prior to discharge.
• Participate in staff meetings of the program as assigned.
• Submit timely progress reports to the referral court on clients involved with the criminal justice system, either tribal or
non-tribal.
• Document the client’s progress or lack of progress for the case file progress notes.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications You’ll Bring
• Demonstrated ability to work with individuals of different cultures in both field and office settings.
• Demonstrated skills in using computer and MS Office software, with the ability to learn other program specific software
programs.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships and function as a productive member of a multidisciplinary team

What to Expect
• Performs duties independently using problem-solving methods. Decisions are made within program guidelines. The
worker is assigned tasks characterized by a wide scope of depth and complexity. The worker is expected to make
professional decisions regarding the complex assessment of drugs and alcohol. The worker is expected to function as a
team member, and yet to function independently as an intensive outpatient
• The purpose of the work is to ensure appropriate intervention for the health and safety of community members. The
actions of the worker will directly affect health and safety at the most basic levels. Thus, the utmost professional manner
is required. Accountability, decision-making and problem-solving skills are essential in carrying out the duties of this
position. Adherence to protocol is extremely important and good judgement skills are required to implement the subtle
nuances of this position.
