Summary
Under the supervision of the Chief Kitsap Academy Principal, the Secondary Humanities Teacher will develop culturally appropriate curriculum, facilitate daily school operations, and teach Native American children high school and college preparation Social Studies classes needed for graduation.
Your Education / Experience
• Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited college or university
• Washington State Secondary teacher certification with appropriate endorsement(s) in Social Studies and English Language Arts that cover secondary grades through grade 12.
Your Responsibilities
• Promoting the school’s vision within the Suquamish Tribe and the Chief Kitsap Academy
• Develop and implement instructional programs for Social Studies and English Language Arts to meet tribal, local, state and federal learning objectives and requirements
• Establish and maintain a courteous, respectful and collaborative working environment
• Participate in budget and resource planning under the leadership of the Principal
• Research and/or develop culturally appropriate curriculum for Social Studies and English Language Arts, and implement this in classroom setting
• Teach core Social Studies/Humanities class(es)
• Develop student contracts and meet with students weekly to document student progress
• Develop/modify lessons for individuals (when appropriate)
• Maintain student records and complete required reports and evaluations
• Assist in the operational functions of the Education Program as assigned
• Perform other duties and assist with special projects as needed
Qualifications You’ll Bring
• Knowledge of Chief Kitsap Academy operations, including but not limited to programs such as ASSIST, PAL, OPTIONS, STAR, Early Childhood Education, Head Start, The Native American Education Committee, Impact Aid and other funding sources for Native American Education
• Knowledge of educational issues and experience working with 6-12 Native American children promoting their success in academic programs
• Able to teach course standards
• Desire and/ or experience working with children who have experienced learning difficulties
• Demonstrated use of computers in classroom
