Summary
Under the supervision of the CKA Principal, the CTE Teacher will develop, facilitate, and teach Chief Kitsap Academy students a Career Technology Education course. The CTE Teacher will work in collaboration with Olympic College and other tribal departments on school related activities and contacts.

Your Education / Experience

  • A Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited college or university with a CTE endorsement
  • Washington State Secondary teacher certification with appropriate endorsement(s)

Your Responsibilities

  • Plan lessons and activities for Career/TechnologyEducation courses.
  • Prepare and gather materials for daily activities
  • Develop/modify lessons for individuals (when appropriate)
  • Provide support to the youth and families of the Suquamish Tribe for academic success
  • Attend school-related events/meetings as directed
  • Assist in the operational functions of the Education Program as assigned.
  • Maintain student records and complete required reports and evaluations
  • Perform other duties as assigned and assist with special projects as needed

Qualifications You’ll Bring

  • Strong communication skills including the ability to organize and conduct class and/or meetings with a variety of levels of expertise
  • Ability to relate well with the children and families of the Suquamish Tribe as well as with school  staff  and community agency officers and representatives
  • Have (or will within45 days of hire) current first aid and CPR endorsements, and comply with other necessary health requirements as required
  • Current knowledge of school operations, including but not limited to Career and Technology Education courses and Tribal school programs.
  • Knowledge of educational issues and experience working with K-12 students and Native American communities, promoting their success in academic programs
  • Able to teach CTE course standards established by the Suquamish Tribe and Washington State
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

What to Expect

  • Desk and clerical work is a condition of employment.
  • Filing, record keeping, logging of contacts and confidentiality issues are a large part of the demands of this job.
  • Current knowledge of school operations, including but not limited to Career and Technology Education courses and Tribal school programs.
  • A desire and experience working with children who have experienced learning difficulties
  • Demonstrated ability to manage classroom behavior
  • Demonstrated use of computers in classroom
  • Must be willing to transport small groups of students as needed.
